Hi there, Every year we host the Outdoors Queensland Awards Dinner at a suitable venue somewhere in Brisbane to get together and celebrate all the wonderful work that is being done for the outdoors and outdoor recreation across the state. During the evening, over a meal and a few drinks, we hear a little about all the Award finalists and celebrate with the Award winners. We are entertained and inspired by our guest speaker, and we have the chance to win a few prizes generously donated by our award partners. Mostly however, it is a chance to catch up with others in the industry, renew old friendships, make new acquaintances and simply enjoy each others company. Some organisations come along to support their nominees* and some come along to the Awards Dinner as an opportunity for their own Xmas Party or annual staff get together. Why ever you choose to come along, we'd be delighted to see you! The Details *The finalists will be announced on Friday 5th. So If your organisation, favourite place, initiative or person is nominated, make sure you are there to support them. Last month we hosted the Outdoors Queensland Symposium 2018 in Brisbane on September 12 and Cairns on September 14, to address the important topic of 'stewardship' - 'the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care' We invited Prof. Marcia Langton to start off the day with a keynote presentation. This helped set the tone for the day as all the following presentations were inspiring and informative. Go to Brisbane and Cairns to learn more about great line up of presenters. We chose the theme of 'stewardship' because we believe that by sharing ideas and generating discussion we can all learn more about how best:
Vitally important steps we should all be taking as good custodians of the outdoors and to ensure a positive future for outdoor recreation activities. Attendance - this is the gripe! So, we'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who came along - your support was very much appreciated; and to encourage others to step up and show support in the future! Not just for QORF, for the future of your outdoors community. RIP Steve TurnerOn behalf of our members and staff QORF would like to express our sadness at the untimely and accidental death of well-known rock climber Steve Turner. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time. Rock climbing, as with all outdoor activities, comes with a certain degree of inherent risk so we would like to use this opportunity to remind people to take the time to check safety systems, to have appropriate redundancy built into the system and to work closely with your colleagues and partners to ensure everybody is kept as safe as possible.
