Click here January 15, 2021 WebinarPublic Safety and Public Health Partnerships to Address Stimulants This webinar, hosted by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and supported by RTI International and the Police Executive Research Forum as part of the larger Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Abuse Program, will bring together law enforcement leaders, researchers and public health experts, and community stakeholders to highlight effective partnerships and promising practices for addressing stimulants. The hope is to identify salient needs and critical gaps in knowledge or practice to improve response. As a result of this meeting, a detailed report will be produced highlighting findings from these discussions to assist practitioners and researchers to prevent and reduce problems related to stimulants. When: Wednesday and Thursday, January 20- 21, 2021 Webinar Domestic Violence and Dispatch Hosted by the Justice Clearinghouse, this webinar discusses domestic violence and the importance of dispatch in responding to violent incidents. Dispatch calls can often be volatile and may present safety risks for callers and responding officers. This session will focus on steps call takers and dispatchers can take when handling these call types. Knowing what types of questions to ask, as well as some motivations for these situations, can help telecommunicators keep callers and responders safe. When: Tuesday, February
9, 2021 IACP Enhancing Law Enforcement Response to Victims (ELERV) Strategy – Second Edition The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) published the second edition of ELERV strategy, which introduces police leaders to the benefits, challenges, and methods to adopting victim-centered, trauma-informed philosophies and practices to enhance their victim response. This comprehensive update to the original ELERV Strategy, released in 2009, includes updated content, promising practices, and insights from demonstration sites and research teams that have implemented the ELERV Strategy in their agencies and communities. Structured around the four core principles of leadership, partnering, training, and performance monitoring, the ELERV Strategy can be implemented across all ranks and disciplines at an agency. Concrete steps and tools are provided to support implementation efforts, including videos, foundational documents, linked resources, and customizable templates for immediate use. The ELERV Strategy can create a lasting impact by helping build bridges in communities, increase crime reporting and case resolutions, and increase confidence and trust. NW3C TrainingInvestigating Incidents Involving UAVs This training, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and hosted by the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), introduces the history of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and the ways they are commonly used, both legitimately and in relation to a crime; it also focuses on the ways law enforcement can gather and analyze evidence involving drones. Topics include gathering evidence both internal and external to the drone, as well as methods for manually processing flight logs and displaying data in Google Earth. BJAGrant Applicant Education Series This webinar is the second of two webinars, hosted by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), that will prepare applicants for BJA funding opportunities. Prior to the release of a solicitation, applicants can take a number of steps. In this webinar, attendees will learn what registrations are necessary to apply, how to navigate Grants.gov and JustGrants, and what resources are available for applicants, such as the Office of Justice Programs’ Funding Resource Center.
