![]() Kia ora , I had the chance to attend the ANZAC Day memorial service in Lower Hutt yesterday. It was a very moving ceremony. Several people had the chance to speak. They spoke of the 20 million deaths and 21 million wounded in WW1. Around 18,000 New Zealanders died in or because of the war, and about 41,000 men were listed as wounded. More than 2700 died at Gallipoli and almost 12,500 on the Western Front. One of the senior military officers spoke of the divisive and ill-informed nature of the propaganda that created the conditions for war. He also spoke of the influence of this type of information today. Business leaders in the Hutt Valley make decisions every day and many of them are informed or influenced by the people they trust and listen to. These engagements are often face-to-face and have lots of questions to help make decisions. I heard recently that our upcoming General Election will have the most online activity of any election in our history. This provides a platform for disinformation (propaganda maybe). As we head towards a General Election on Saturday 14th October, I encourage you to be informed and ask questions directly to the people that have answers. Come and listen to the politicians and ask them questions. We have several opportunities for you to do this in May. We'll be covering areas such as the business landscape, our economy, taxation and immigration amongst others that are an important part of the bigger picture of business. If you’re interested, come along and join us. In this edition of the Hutt Valley Business Weekly:

RIVERLINK UPDATES
AECOM Fletcher To Deliver RiverLink![]() After more than five years of extensive consultation, engagement, and consenting work by project partners on behalf of their local communities, RiverLink has announced AECOM-Fletcher as the preferred alliance to deliver the programme. Waka Kotahi Regional Manager of Systems Design Kesh Keshaboina says finding the right team for the job has been front and centre for project partners over the past six months, and this announcement marks a key milestone in the programme. “Strong relationships have been key in getting us to where we are today and will be fundamental in the ongoing success of the RiverLink programme. Guided by programme objectives Ora Tāngata, Ora Taiao and Ora Wairua, we look forward to working together with our partners and the AECOM-Fletcher alliance to achieve the best outcomes for our people, communities, and environment,” Keshaboina says. “For us, RiverLink is a unique opportunity to deliver a more integrated, safer, reliable and accessible transport system for all modes, and one that improves the resilience of our regional infrastructure. By working collaboratively together with our project partners, we’ve been able to achieve much more than we would have individually. It’s a testament to the partnership we have built over the last five years, and how we intend to continue going forward into the delivery phase,” Keshaboina says. The alliance will also upgrade flood protection infrastructure on Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt River. Greater Wellington Chair Daran Ponter says one of the greatest threats to the region is a serious flood on the river, which has the potential to destroy more than a billion dollars’ worth of community, council and state assets. ![]() RiverLink awarded NZPI Best Practice Award![]() The RiverLink resource consent process has been awarded the New Zealand Planning Institute’s Best Practice Award for Integrated Planning and Investigations. ![]()
