Dear Families, Thank you to you all for the amazing job navigating technology, google classrooms and various apps whilst meeting the needs of children at different year levels. Working remotely or dealing with the economic and emotional strains of reduced work during COVID 19 has certainly made our lives a little more complex. At the school level, staff members are continuing to create sessions for students that are easy to access, engaging and don’t require too much teacher knowledge to implement. Together we are working out the problems and finding out what suits particular families and children. Thank you for your feedback on what we have presented or the supports that are offered so far. Already changes have been made within units to locate requirements and ensure ease of access to classwork. We will continue to improve. Keep in mind this is new for us all, we DO empathise with what you are going through! I have included a link to an interesting article from the well-respected Educational Consultant, John Hattie, on the impact of a crisis on learning in children https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-17/will-missing-school-due-to-covid-19-matter-for-school-students/12154266 The good news is that results from testing show that children do not suffer. So do what you can and get into a ‘groove’ of what works for you. Keep up the great work everyone, we hope to return to “normal” soon. Kind regards, Libby Hamilton St John's acknowledges the Taungurung People as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work, play and live. Calendar of Events
Religious Education The Road to Emmaus: Luke 24:13-35 “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?” A walk and a meal can transform your life, and that’s what happened in the encounter of Jesus with two of his earliest followers. They walk the seven miles from Jerusalem to Emmaus, first sharing their common grief, and then entering into a strange conversation with their unexpected companion, who unfolds the story of salvation through resurrection to them. Somehow, they cannot recognize their companion as Jesus. Confused and grief stricken, the two men nevertheless reach out to the stranger. They invite him to supper, and come to know his identity as the Risen Jesus in the breaking of the bread. REMOTE LEARNING IN ART Art is a great way for students to practice mindfulness, which helps them to be calm and less stressed. There will be an Art task to complete each week. This will be posted each Tuesday. REMOTE LEARNING IN PE Students and parents are reminded that 60 minutes of physical activity, where the students puff, is important for physical and mental health. This is what the experts say is the minimum amount of exercise for good health. In PE, we are asking all our St. John's students to participate in 60 minutes of exercise a day - this could include working on the farm, riding a bike, jumping on a trampoline etc. There will also be a challenge posted each week. This will be posted in each year levels Google Classroom on a Friday. Stay healthy! Please contact me if you would like the task emailed directly to you - mwatson@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au Melinda Watson REMOTE LEARNING IN MUSIC Students are reminded that Wednesday afternoon is Music but if you want to do it at another time that's fine as long as you are getting your other work completed. When you're doing your family tasks, another time will probably suit. About 20-30 minutes is all that you need to do. Your Music Choice Board tasks are for the entire term so you can pick and choose what to do each week, the highlighted tasks are to be completed and turned in on google classroom. Some students were not able to access their diary, hopefully this is fixed now. Before turning any work in, whether it's written or a video, make sure you look over your work or have someone help you. I will keep giving you some helpful hints along the way. Please do not hesitate to ask for help. These are challenging times for all us so it is important to keep connected and have some fun. I hope that the music tasks will help do that. Kind Regards, Mrs Allen School Information

ANZAC DAY 2020 ANZAC Day 2020 is one that we will not forget in a hurry. I'm sure that all of our families remembered and honored those who bravely served this great country of ours, to the best of their ability and in your own unique way. Thank you to Charlee, Mia and Emma Rieusset who laid a wreath at the Euroa RSL on behalf of the St John's School Community. LEST WE FORGET Thank You! Thanks to Nathan McLure for removing the mesh from a section of the Tennis Courts. This now frees up some more space for entry and exit to the school. Thank you to Euroa Rotary and the Rieusset Family for their donation of hand sanitizer for use at school. It is much appreciated.
