Ordination. We're listening

Ordination. We're listening

Have you visited the LCA website recently? If you have, you might have noticed a new panel on the lower right hand side (see right).

“Ordination: We’re listening” offers resources and ideas for respectful, loving, and faithful conversation across the church on the topic of the ordination of both men and women. The material is being prepared by the Office of the Bishop and LCA Communications for the guidance and encouragement of congregations, ministries, and members of the Lutheran Church of Australia as we conduct church-wide dialogue on the ministry of the LCA and whether women should be eligible for ordination.
The material is available for you to download, copy, distribute, and watch among your congregational members or ministry participants, and to inspire local dialogues wherever Lutherans meet to talk about matters of faith, mission, and the church. It also suggests ways that you might like to add your voice to this pivotal national discussion.
The collection has been launched, but please note that is not yet complete. Components will be added as they become available.

The first Australian visit of Bishop Mounib Younan

Next week we are anticipating the arrival of Bishop Mounib Younan, leader of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, and President of the Lutheran World Federation. While he has come to Australia as the guest of the Australian Conference on Lutheran Education the organisers have graciously allowed time for a side program with the Bishop in the LCA. To that end I will be having a church to church meeting with Bishop Younan, and also a discussion on the LCA’s associate membership of the LWF. Various media interviews are being arranged, both among church and secular media outlets. The secular media outlets, in particular, are likely to question him on current topics like the situation in Syria, refugees, and gay marriage. I look forward to hearing what he has to say, and encourage your prayers for him as he comes, for the first time, to Australia.

Australia's new government

The new Australian government is about to be sworn in by the Governor General. I encourage you to pray privately and publicly for Prime Minister Abbot and the cabinet as they make decisions for the future of Australia. I will be sending him an official greeting from the LCA.
