EARLY VOTING

Early voting has begun and runs through next Friday, October 30. Below are the hours of operations and you can click here for the location nearest you and a sample ballot of the races and propositions on the ballot in Harris County. Early voting locations in Senate District 6 are listed below. If you have any questions, please call the Harris County Clerk's Office at 713-755-6965.

Early Voting Hours of Operation
October 19 - October 23: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
October 24: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
October 25: 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
October 26 - October 30: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m

Early vote locations in Senate District 6:

TEXAS

Everyone in the state that is registered to vote is eligible to vote on the State Constitutional Amendments, below is a brief explanation of each of the 7 propositions.

Proposition 1 - Increases the homestead exemption from school property taxes from $15,000 to $25,000.
Proposition 2 - Authorizes a homestead exemption from property taxes from the spouses of disabled veterans who died before 2011.
Proposition 3 - Repeals the requirement that statewide elected officials live in Austin.
Proposition 4 - Allows a professional sports team's charitable foundation to conduct charity raffles.
Proposition 5 - Permits counties with 7,500 or fewer residents to contract with landowners to build private roads.
Proposition 6 - Establishes a constitutional right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife, within the current restrictions already in place.
Proposition 7 - Dedicates $2.5 billion (starting in 2018) plus 35% of motor vehicles sales and rental taxes in excess of $5 billion (starting in 2020) to highway construction and maintenance.

HARRIS COUNTY

If you live in Harris County, you will be able to vote on the following propositions.

Proposition 1 - Levying $700,000,000 in taxes for the Harris County Road Bonds, of which $60,000,000 will be for subdivision street replacement and repair

Proposition 2 - Levying $60,000,000 in taxes for the Harris County Parks Bonds

Proposition 3 -Levying $24,000,000 in taxes for the Harris County Veterinary Public Health Adoption & Care Center

Proposition 4 - Levying $64,000,000 in taxes for the Harris County Flood Control District

CITY OF HOUSTON

If you live in the City of Houston you are able to cast your vote for Mayor, City Controller, City Council and two propositions. 

Proposition 1 - the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance, also known as HERO, which prohibits discrimination in city employment and city services, city contracts, public accommodations, private employment, and housing based on an individual's sex, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, age, familial status, marital status, military status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, or pregnancy.

Proposition 2 - changing the City of Houston term limits to two terms in the same office and limit the length of all terms of elective office to four years.

KNOW YOUR VOTING RIGHTS

• On Election Day, voters who are in line at 7:00 pm must be allowed to vote.

• Voters may be assisted by any person of their choice as they cast their ballots.

• Voters with special needs will be accommodated at all polling places.

• Voters may encounter problems at the polls, but may always cast a provisional ballot.
