Key Messages Week 3 - Term 3Year 12 retreatAnd remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age - Matthew 28:20 This week saw our Year 12 students taking time out for a time of rest and reflection as they embarked on their retreat experience. Over 3 days at the beautiful Warrambui Retreat Centre, students had the opportunity to contemplate their personal strengths, their relationships with their families, friends and teachers, and the place of faith in their lives, as we explored the theme of “An Encounter on the Mountain” together. Our time was punctuated by powerful input from members of staff, as well as the chance to break open ideas in small groups, learning more about the people that make up this very special year group. There was plenty of laughter, great food, an incredible display of dancing prowess, and more than a few tears shed, that highlighted the moving nature of the retreat experience. These are some of the comments our Year 12 students have shared about retreat: “I came into the Retreat feeling quite skeptical. But as I engaged with the activities and sessions I began to develop a greater appreciation for my cohort. I feel as though I have both matured as an individual and developed a stronger bond with my entire year group. I am immensely thankful for all those that engaged with the Retreat and all the amazing teachers that facilitated the experience. It was excellent.” “Considering that we went into retreat not knowing what to expect, not really knowing anything that we were going to be doing (“trust the mystery” and all that), it was honestly such a great and moving experience. Our cohort has always been friendly with each other, but I feel as though retreat allowed for each of us to explore friendships and connections that we would have otherwise not considered, and I came away feeling much closer to my fellow year 12 students overall.” “Retreat gave me the opportunity to really reflect on myself as an individual and really think about the personal strengths and weaknesses which I believe is something crucial that you normally don't get time to do.” I would like to take this opportunity to offer my heartfelt thanks to Year 12 for the way in which they embraced the retreat, particularly as they had very little understanding of what it would be like before they arrived at Warrambui! Your open-mindedness, authenticity, and respect for each other made our time together very moving, and I know it is an experience I will not forget. I hope it has inspired you to move through this last semester of your high school adventure with fresh eyes and gentle hearts. To our staff team of Mrs. Rey, Mrs. O’Meara, Mrs. Tually, Mr. Whatman and Mr. Wood, I extend my most sincere thanks for your collaboration and generosity in making this retreat such a powerful experience. Events of this nature simply cannot happen without the broader support of our College community, and I thank our staff and parents for their support of this very significant milestone for our Year 12 students. Mrs. Nicola Edghill Car Park and Bus Bay in the Afternoon For the remainder of the year, I have been rostered on to do bus duty each day of the week-I did volunteer! I have had concerns for some time about the issues of congestion and safety at the front of the school for a 20 minute period from 3:30 until around 3:50 pm. Currently, we believe around 50% of our students are travelling independently to and from school-walking, riding, driving their own car or by public transport (mostly buses). We would like this figure to be much higher for a number of reasons.
We are currently surveying students to determine the exact numbers of students using each mode of transport. In the meantime can I ask that parents/carers using the car park and bus bay each afternoon be aware of the specific needs of the bus drivers.
Finally, I would encourage all parents and carers to consider allowing students to find their own way to and from school for the reasons already expressed. I understand that there will be days where a pickup or drop off is necessary - appointments, music lessons etc. I look forward to working with the JPC Community for the remainder of the year. Paul McKie French Culture - L’oeuvre de Monet On Monday, French elective students from Years 8 - 11 travelled to the National Gallery of Australia where they were treated to a private tour of this exceptional display of impressionist art. Students were able to engage with works from Monet’s early influences such a Boudin, and see the development of Monet’s work on ambiance and light, through to his famous water lilies and garden paintings. Students were awed by the interpretation of these paintings and learnt much about the impressionist movement and it’s place in French culture and history.

National Swimming News JPC Students Alexandra Revell and Brady Bryant both attended the SSACT National Swimming competition in Melbourne last week as part of the ACT team. In her first time representing ACT, Alex gained a PB in her 50m Free, placing 12th and just missing out on a Final swim. She also swam in four relays, achieving great times in all of her legs. In his THIRD time representing ACT, Brady had four individual events, achieving PBs in all, and swam in two relays providing great support to his team. Former JPC student (and Alex’s brother) Lachlan was selected as the flag bearer for ACT this year. As if a long tough week wasn’t enough….. Alex and brother Lachlan were then joined by Thomas Guthrie as part of the Senior Area Representative Squad competing across two days in Woy Woy. Both Alex and Tom achieved a number of PBs, and Tom was a semi-finalist in the Skins 50m Freestyle event. Lachlan won every race he entered! Lastly, the ACT squad was named as winners of the Premier Area. Congratulations to our wonderful competitors- it takes great strength to train and compete at such a high level and we are super proud of your achievements. Thank you should also go to the parents who consistently support these students and allow us to share and celebrate these experiences with them. School Sports ACT Congratulations to the below students who have been successful in gaining selection for School Sports ACT Representation!
