It's Thank Offering Time!

With a freewill offering I will sacrifice to you;
I will give thanks to your name, O
Lord, for it is good.
Psalm 54:6 (ESV)

It's that time of year! The leaves are changing, the clocks fall back this weekend, and there are colorful inserts promoting the Thank Offering in our church bulletins!

While we don't have too many opportunities during autumn for short-term workers to share their gifts and talents on OPC mission fields at home or abroad, the annual Thank Offering does provide the opportunity for us to share a portion of the financial blessings that we have enjoyed through the year to support the work of Worldwide Outreach (Christian Education, Foreign Missions, Home Missions).  This year’s goal for the Thank Offering is $1,000,000!  This represents 25% of the annual budget of the OPC’s worldwide outreach efforts.  Will you consider the portion of your gifts you will share?

"We look forward to every opportunity we have ... for those gifts to be used in such a way that the kingdom of God would flourish, that Christ would be exalted, and that believers would be gathered into the kingdom," says John Shaw, General Secretary, Committee on Home Missions and Church Extension.

Five promotional videos have been produced to complement this year's Thank Offering posters and bulletin inserts. A new video is being introduced on the homepage at OPC.org each week; all of the videos are being posted at vimeo.com; and churches are being encouraged to share the videos in Sunday School or on their websites or Facebook pages.

May God greatly multiply our meager gifts to His glory, a reflection of this year’s Thank Offering theme, “Power Made Perfect in Weakness.”  The link below will take you to the video entitled “Worldwide Outreach,” with additional videos just below it on that same page.

Short-Term Missions Opportunities

Reading lessons are from Scripture and oral discussions revolve around the stories presented in the lessons.

This is a tremendous opportunity to present the Word of God, and student response and interaction is usually energetic!

Summer 2016:
Join English Camp Team in Czech Republic

You are welcomed to apply to join a short-term missions trip to the Czech Republic next summer (July 13-25, 2016)!

Bayview OPC in Chula Vista, CA, is once again organizing a team to help our missionaries in the Czech Republic, Jerry and Marilyn Farnik, conduct a family English Camp.

Advertised as a camp that is run by Christians, families are invited to a hotel/resort for one week to attend classes, go on day trips, enjoy sporting activities, and put on skits and talent shows!

Help Refurbish Church Building
in Utah

OPC Pastor Jason Wallace of Christ Presbyterian Church in Magna, Utah, outside Salt Lake City, has established quite a presence in witnessing to the local Mormon community, especially by way of his local, weekly call-in TV show that has drawn visitors to the church.  Here's an opportunity to participate in this important work - by helping the congregation complete renovations to their church building!

The church was very encouraged to receive a hard-working team from Faith OPC (Long Beach, CA) this past summer!  But additional help is still needed!

Can Your Church Use a Team?

Is there a project that your church could undertake if it had the help of volunteers from another OP church or presbytery? For example:

  • Need help with Vacation Bible School?
  • Need help with community outreach?
  • Need help making improvements to your church building?

In making such a need known, your church actually provides an opportunity for those who seek to share their time, gifts, and skills with others in the OPC!

We can help you get the word out and look for a team!  Contact us at OPCShortTermMissions@opc.org for further information, or click below to complete a form to request a team to help your church!
