Win-Win-WinA weekly newsletter for purpose-driven leaders
in the sports & entertainment industry.
Sports, music, film, and the performance arts are often described as a reprieve from the struggle of day-to-day life. As the news cycle becomes dominated by the Impeachment Inquiry, and it seems like the U.S. has never been more divided, we look to sports & entertainment for a breath of fresh air. We follow athletes, artists, and performers because they inspire us and they give us hope. They display the incredible potential of human beings when we work together towards a common goal. It is my hope that you find this newsletter as a positive part of your week. We highlight the great work happening in the sports & entertainment industry, and provoke some thought on how each of us might make the world a better place through
our careers. No matter how severe the storm in U.S. politics may get, there is still good work happening all over the country. We have to continue doing good work and trust that this storm will pass. -JB
1. Sport can be a model industry on climate issues, now and later | (Sports Business Journal) - "Sport, with its impact on so many other industries (not to mention its influence over fan behavior), can play a significant part in making sure we don’t get to that stage. But now is the time to take action and to position sport as a genuine climate-leading industry."

Jazz Renew NBA's Only Jersey Cause-Sponsorship | (Beyond Sport) - Ryan Smith, chief executive and co-founder of Qualtrics, said: “Together, we have created a unique sponsorship – one that focuses on perfecting the fan experience through consistent innovation while also rallying people from across the world to join us in the fight against cancer. give and increasing the pace of cancer research.”

2019 Porter Novelli/Cone Gen Z Purpose Study | Download - Gen Z, defined as the generation born between 1997 and 2012, gives me hope.
- According to this study, "90% of Gen Z are tired of how negative and divided our country has become and 94% believe our country needs to come together to make progress on important issues."
- Business leaders should also take note: 83% of Gen Zers take purpose into consideration when deciding where to work, and 72% consider purpose when deciding what to buy.
- This is also a generation that is optimistic and willing to take action. "More than three-quarters (76%) say they can make an impact by taking actions to support issues that are important to them. For this reason, they feel we’ll be better off in the future."
LinkedIn's Jeff Weiner - How to set the drumbeat | Masters of Scale with Reid Hoffman - Masters of Scale is one of the podcasts I recommend most to business leaders. LinkedIn Founder, Reid Hoffman, interviews some of the most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders on the planet, and hones in on key components of building a successful business.
- In this episode with LinkedIn CEO, Jeff Weiner, they discuss how leaders
"set the drumbeat" of a company's culture, and why compassionate leadership is the drumbeat Weiner has chosen to play at the company.
- Just a phenomenal episode. Go listen to it.
As business becomes more purpose-driven, brands run the risk of "cause-washing" or "green-washing" their marketing efforts.
How do you build effective cause marketing campaigns and platforms without coming across as disingenuous or inauthentic as a brand? What are the most important do's and don'ts in purpose-driven marketing?
Reply to this email with an answer to three questions: What's one thing you like about the Win-Win-Win newsletter?
What's one thing you wish were different about the newsletter? What new/different topics or sections would you like to see in future editions? As always, thank you so much for reading and sharing with your network.
