St John's School Newsletter Term 2 Week 3 St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Parents, Thank you for your patience and support during the snap lockdown. We hope that this will be the last time we have our schools closed. School will reopen tomorrow for all students, as restrictions have lifted and the Staff Sabbatical that was planned for tomorrow and Friday will now be held later in the year. We will let you know the new dates as soon as possible. Thank you! - Thank you to John, Michelle and Kadey Macklin for once again providing our swim team with St John’s swimming caps. John Macklin presented the swimming caps to our swim team at last Friday’s assembly. Our school is blessed have such a generous family in our school that is not only proud of our school, but genuinely encourages all children to do their best. Anderson Street Entrance. - Tomorrow and Friday the building company will be back on site to fix small defects that have arisen from our recent building project. One of the areas that needs fixing is the floor at the front entrance and in the double doorway going into the quadrangle from the foyer area, that currently are trip hazards. Due to these works, the entrance on Anderson Street will be closed and all students, parents and staff must use the Bury Street entrance for tomorrow only. Parents and students will also not be able to access the office area. No Assembly - Due to the snap lock down and the planned Staff Sabbatical there will not be an Assembly this Friday afternoon. District Swimming - District swimming is now scheduled to be held on Monday 22nd February at the Euroa Swimming Pool. If your child has been selected to attend, there is a permission note on PAM for parents to complete as soon as possible. If you able to help out on the day please contact Melinda via email (mwatson@sjeuroa.catholic.edu.au). Also, the new date for Divisional Swimming will be Friday 26th at Seymour Pool. Mobile Phone/Device Policy - At our recent Board Meeting, our Mobile Phone/Device policy was ratified. From tomorrow, students who bring their mobile phone/device to school must hand their device/phone in to the office where it will be securely stored for the day and collected by the student at the end of the day. Parents must also complete the parent section of the form and return it to school as soon as possible. Students who have been bringing their phone to school were given a copy of this note last week, however if you don’t have the note, a copy can be downloaded from our website. Headphones - Year 5 and 6 students are welcome to bring headphones to school, however they are not essential for student learning. If students do bring headphones to school they are NOT to be expensive. Students who bring expensive wireless headphones to school (such as Air Pods, Beats) will be asked to take them home. Thank you for your support in this. Kind regards, Libby Hamilton Calendar of Events

According to the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus spent 40 days fasting in the desert, where he endured temptation. Lent originated as a mirroring of this, fasting 40 days as preparation for Easter. Ash Wednesday derives its name from the practice of blessing ashes made from palm branches blessed on the previous year's Palm Sunday, and placing them on the heads of participants to the accompaniment of the words, ‘Turn away from your sins, and believe in the gospel.’ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew. When you give alms, When you pray, go to your inner room, When you fast, The gospel of the Lord. As we begin the season of Lent, let us reflect on the times when we have failed to love and care for others. Let us pray for God’s forgiveness and mercy. When we constantly put ourselves before others, we carry the stone of selfishness in our hearts. When we fail to show tolerance and acceptance, we carry the stone of prejudice in our hearts. God of mercy, heal our hearts. Click on the Sandpiper Logo to view the latest publication Lunch orders are on Wednesdays!
