The challenges of crime-stopping, traffic control, public safety, and cybersecurity on the road can only increase as more human drivers give way to algorithms. A panel of experts sponsored by the National Institute of Justice, along with RAND Corporation and the Police Executive Research Forum, as well as a panel of law enforcement, industry, and traffic safety leaders, were tasked with articulating key public safety challenges presented by autonomous road vehicle development over the next five years. This article identifies 17 high-priority needs associated with key systematic issues or challenges.
NW3C Post-Seizure Evidentiary Concerns Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and hosted by the National White-Collar Crime Center (NW3C), this online training addresses legal issues that appear relatively late in the investigative and judicial process. Topics include the Fifth Amendment as it applies to passwords and login credentials, determining the ownership of files on digital devices, and the admissibility of online evidence.
