D'ARCY SLATER FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS

The D'Arcy Slater Foundation and WAIS are pleased to advise that applications for the D'Arcy Slater Foundation Scholarship 2017 Summer Round will be opening on 29 January. Up to seven individual scholarships worth $5,000 are awarded annually, together with up to one team scholarship worth $10,000 in the Winter round.

Applicants are required to meet the selection criteria, which consists of:
(i) Personal qualities
(ii) The importance of their sporting goal in career pathway
(iii) Financial need
(iv) Financial status

The application form will be available on the WAIS website for a two week period. Applications close 12 February 2018.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR FEI WORLD EQUESTRIAN GAMES

Volunteer inquiries are currently being accepted for the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games™. Expected to be the largest sporting event in North America this year, the Games will be held at Tryon International Equestrian Center on September 11-23 in N.C. People interested in volunteering can fill out an inquiry form online at www.tryon2018.com.

EA MEDICATION CONTROL POLICY CHANGES

As part of EA’s ongoing review of Regulations and Policies, the EA Board at its meeting held on the 19 December approved changes to the National Medication Control System Policy. This document, which had not had any major updates since its inception in 2009 has been renamed EA Medication Control Policy. READ MORE

SHOW HORSE SQUAD APPLICATIONS OPEN

EWA is pleased to announce that we will be adding Show Horse to the High Performance program for 2018. EWA will appoint two squads including a State Squad (over 17yrs at 1 January) and a Recognition Squad (17 or under at 1 January). Selection criteria and application forms are now available here. Applications close 31 January.

EWA is excited to present a clinic with Danish Olympian Lone Jorgensen. Lone is a Dual Olympian and elite dressage coach and regularly works with high performance riders to success. Lone will also be presenting a Masterclass on Wednesday 31 January (more details to come).

A reminder to all officials that you will not show on the EA Officials Search if your membership is not current. Clubs are now beginning to source officials for their first events of the year, so if you want to be listed as an active official we recommend that you renew your membership soon.

2018 Rulebook Workshop
Date:
February 7, 6:00 – 9:00pm
Location: Swan Valley Equestrian Park, Hadrill Rd
Price: $5 judges, $10 non-judges. Tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
Kim Thomas will run through the major changes in the rulebook for 2018. Make sure you are aware of the new rules ahead of the 2018 season and before the ORBT for accreditation.

DWA MID-WEEK DRESSAGE RETURNS IN 2018

Dressage WA's popular Thursday Judge Protocol Days and Friday Events will now be extended with the introduction of some weekend dates to help cater for all members. Here are the dates to save to your calendar:

  • March 18 Protocol
  • April 12 Protocol / 13 & 14 Event
  • June 21 Protocol / 22 Event
  • August 23 Protocol / 24 & 25 Event

In addition, the informative lunch-time Workshops will evolve to offer riders further educational opportunities. Stay tuned as more Workshop information and dates become available. DWA is looking forward to an exciting year of competition, education and involvement in our sport in WA!

CHANGES TO FEI DRESSAGE TESTS

New FEI tests are now in effect as of 1 January 2018. These will replace all previous EA FEI tests. The new tests include changes to deductions, penalties, eliminations and collective marks. EA Preliminary to Advanced tests will remain in place until 1/1/19 when new tests will be announced. READ MORE

2018 EVENTING RULES NOW IN EFFECT

Updates have been made to the EA National Eventing Rules effective as of 1 January 2018. Download the 2018 rulebook and summary of changes here. There will also be an additional rule change to the use of FEI frangible devices effective 1 February 2018. This rule change is due to safety reasons (see below).

FRANGIBLE DEVICES MANDATORY FROM 1 FEBRUARY 2018

Equestrian Australia has implemented an Eventing rule change to make the use of approved FEI frangible devices mandatory from 1 February 2018 on those fences in 1*/2*/3*/4* courses in Australia (National and FEI events) where the materials fit the specifications for use of a frangible device. JUMPING EQUIPMENT FOR SALE

The EWA Jumping committee is accepting offers for the purchase of a wooden red brick wall jump, 11 rails and 1 board currently stored in the SEC show jumping shed. The wall comes in many sections and has been in the shed since last used and the poles are various colours and lengths. Please contact Rosemary on 0414 457 910 if interested. All offers considered.

EWA SHOW HORSE HANDBOOK

The 2018 EWA Show Horse Handbook is now available for download here. The Handbook has been revised to gather the rules and guidelines from many aspects of the sport of Show Horse into one resource. It is important that all involved in the sport know the rules under which they compete and organisers/volunteers must be aware of their responsibilities and entitlements.
