Keeping count of koalas

Two koala surveys this month will provide valuable data not only on where koalas are, but their habitat use and movement patterns within the urban areas.

On Saturday 15 October, more than 40 trained volunteers are heading to North Stradbroke Island for Council’s NSI Koala Urban Survey, an annual count of koalas around the three island townships.

Council wants internet connectivity help from businesses

Redland City business owners can help improve our city’s internet connectivity by taking part in a Council online survey.

For more than three years, Council has lobbied successive Federal governments and Communications Ministers for improved internet connectivity and we are now calling on local businesses to get our message across.

What's on in Redland City in October? 

The Island Vibe festival is back for 2016 with a stellar lineup including Katchafire, Dubmarine and Blue King Brown. Don’t miss the 33rd annual Straddie Assault - Australia’s longest running teams surfing competition taking place on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 October at Point Lookout. 

After a sell-out season last year, the Russian National Ballet returns to perform Swan Lake at the Redland Performing Arts Centre

October's Twilight Makers Markets, are joined by PokéFest 2.0.  From 4pm Saturday 22 October, everyone can enjoy catching Pokémon and battling at the Cleveland Train Station Gym.

Be part of the internet solution

Local business operators can help improve the city’s internet services and connectivity taking part in an online survey organised by Council.

It is part of a review of current and planned broadband infrastructure for the city aimed at identifying gaps in both coverage and capacity.

It takes just 10 minutes to complete and local business input is vital. Have your say now at Your Say Redlands.

The Redlands should know soon whether it will get the ex-HMAS Tobruk to create a new marine habitat and dive site.

Two chances to see Twice Removed

The stunning Twice Removed - Quandamooka by acclaimed Quandamooka artist Megan Cope is now on outdoor display at two Redlands locations.

Installed on the wall of Council’s main administration building adjacent to the Redland Art Gallery and on the Howard Walker Jetty, North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), this public art is an initiative of the Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation (QYAC) in partnership with Redland City Council.

If you see people out enjoying waterways of the Redlands, but don't have your own paddling equipment, Tony and Katrina Beutel have a solution. For the past five years, they've been running Redlands Kayak Tours.

Christmas by Starlight - save the date! 

Council’s biggest and best-loved community event, Christmas by Starlight, will light up Sirromet Winery, Mount Cotton, on Sunday 18 December.

Check out the website for updates on the program, which promises to build on last year’s hugely successful event at picturesque Mt Cotton.

 

Upcoming business workshops

Social Media – Beginners

Tuesday 18 October, 5-7pm. Redland Sporting Club, Anson Road, Wellington Point

This workshop will cover the basics and simple ‘how to’ instructions and sample social media posts that work. Bring along your laptop or smart device and be navigated through writing a post, using hashtags, how to build an audience and advertising options on main platforms.

Social Media - Intermediate 

Wednesday 16 November, 7 – 9am. RSL Club, Passage Street, Cleveland

Learn more advanced thinking about tying online to offline marketing, digital public relations and how to amplify your brand using social media.  This workshop will also touch on managing issues, and having a policy or agency to manage those issues.

Places for business workshops are limited so book online early to avoid disappointment.

One Tree combines paintings and photographs to showcase the beauty of one Poinciana tree in Cleveland.

 

Friday 22 October, 4 – 8pm

Twilight Makers Market, Raby Bay Harbour

Catch Pokémon and battle at the Cleveland Train Station Gym.

Lures will be placed on local Pokéstops during the event.
