University Carbon Report
Leeds Beckett slashes its carbon emissions
Out of all UK universities, Leeds Beckett is ranked 23rd in the BriteGreen League Table. This highlights how universities fare in cutting down their carbon emissions over the period 2006-2016. We have managed to slash our emissions by 34.6% in that period.

Leeds Beckett switches to triple-certified coffee supplier
Our university has switched to Matthew Algie, a triple-certified coffee supplier. This is a positive step foward for our supply chain puts sustainability very high on their agenda.
We interviewed Amy Oroko, their sustainability manager who enlightened us on Matthew Algie. We discussed sustainability, their three certifications, and their long-term strategy.

Matthew Algie has three certifications to its name: Rainforest alliance, Fairtrade and Organic.

Shuttle Bus
From 16th October, the university has launched a free inter-campus shuttle bus service. In the first week, we have made 440 journeys. Note that following feedback from many members of staff, buses will run at quarter to and past the hour, from Monday 6th November.

Green Impact
Come and join the existing Green Impact teams and register yourself in the scheme. Green Impact is a behavioural change scheme where teams undertake small tasks that make their department more eco-friendly. On a wider scale in the university, this can have a positive impact on our carbon emissions.

Come along to the Lock and Lights Sale on Wednesday 1st November from 10am to 2pm. We will be selling affordable locks and lights, which are very practical (if not a necessity) if you cycle. On top of that, Sustrans will be at the event, promoting their Free cycling training initiative and give you valuable advice on cycling in Leeds.

Yet again this month, come along to our free bike check-up at the Rose Bowl Atrium. Dr Bike will check your brakes, gears and offer free cycling advice. Affordable locks and lights are on sale too.
