PNA HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS
Join us to ring in 2022 at our free Annual Meeting and Breakfast on Sat, Jan. 29 from 9 am to 11 am! We'll serve coffee and homemade pastries, explore our successes in 2021 and plans for 2022, and elect new board members. To attend in person, please RSVP online. Masks and proof of vaccination are required. You can also enjoy the meeting from home: we'll share a link to the event livestream the
week of Jan. 24. We're seeking volunteers for the meeting, too! Whether you join us in person or stream the event on YouTube, we can't wait to kickstart 2022 with you!
Our Community Tool Library is back with expanded hours! It is open on Fridays from 2 pm to 4 pm and Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. We are also adding a "crafters" section to our offering of tools! To make this expansion possible, we need donations of block and screen-printing tools, leather crafting tools, and stained-glass making tools. You are welcome to drop off tools at the Phinney Center Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The Tool Library and Community Woodshop need volunteers as well (more details in volunteer section) so 2022 is the perfect time to join our crafty community!
We're partnering with University Heights this year for Black History Month and planning more in-person activities. We are focused on bringing educational and artistic programming to our communities during February and beyond. The Phinney Center will host and celebrate Black artists, students, performers, and educators and we'd love to add more events. Are you an artist, educator, performer, or poet? Would you like to host a one-time or ongoing event with us? Please contact our Events Manager Mary Campbell.
After more than a year of selling cider to-go on 1st Ave NW, our friends at Yonder Cider have announced that their garage-based Yonder Bar is closing on Feb. 26. To send off this unique PhinneyWood spot in style, they’re inviting the community to reserve a seat at Yonder Bar and enjoy a pint inside. Yonder Cider is very kindly donating all reservation fees to the PNA in support of our vital work in the
community. Last summer, Yonder Cider launched a collaborative taproom with Bale Breaker Brewing in Ballard, so their cider is still close by!
Do you have a 3rd to 5th grade girl in your life? We have a great after school opportunity starting in March through a partnership with Girls on the Run. The program uses a fun, interactive curriculum that creatively integrates running to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident. Girls of all ability and activity levels welcome!
On December 21st, about 30 Village members and staff gathered to ring in the Winter Solstice. We lit candles to share warmth and light, and enjoyed music and readings from Village members, who helped usher us through the darkest night of the year with hope. The event was such a success that we hope to make it an annual PNA Village tradition!
Thank you to everyone who supported and enjoyed the new PhinneyWood Winter Lights and our PNAnimals! More than 100 local businesses and organizations came together to foster 174 PNAnimals, which raised over $5,000 for our business program. We are thrilled to have partnered with the City of Seattle's Neighborhood Matching Fund to reimagine and recreate a community tradition that was sorely missed in 2020. The PNAnimals are
hibernating till next holiday season, but they can't wait to light up PhinneyWood again!
A pandemic, protests, and economic jolts ushered in the so-called “Roaring Twenties.” Americans adjusted in ways both innovative and counterproductive. What lessons from the 1920s can we apply to our own looming 20s? This event is sponsored by Humanities Washington.
Can you provide first aid in emergencies? Learn first aid, infant, child, and adult CPR, and HIV and bloodborne pathogens in this class. It meets COVID-19 safety requirements (hands-on only, no mouth-to mouth) and L/I WISHA-WAC safety standards. Certificates will be issued at the end of class.
Ever wonder what it’s like to work in the veterinary field? Or have questions about pet parenting, like how to tell when something is an emergency or what to watch for as your pet ages? Meet two sisters—a vet and a technician—who grew up working in their dad’s vet clinic and then went into the field themselves. Register: 206.297.0875.
Come learn about the Phinney Neighborhood Preschool Co-op's fantastic preschool programs for infants, toddlers, threes, and pre-k! Meet the teachers, mingle with current co-op families, learn about the curriculum, and explore the classrooms. Children are encouraged to attend!
