New First Service Family Worship

Our First Service Worship Commission, under the leadership of Jeannie Pedersen-Smith, is introducing two new worship experiences to our congregation. Beginning this Sabbath, January 31, there will be a monthly family-friendly worship service, led by Pioneer families and featuring youthful participation in extended hymn signing, Scripture readings, the congregational prayer and children stories. All are welcome to share this first-service only innovation.

Beginning next month there will also be a new church choir, “Pioneer Sanctuary Choir,” under Jeannie’s direction. The choir looks forward to eventually becoming a frequent feature in both worship services. The choir membership selection process is going on now (see article below by Jean Pederson-Smith).

The worship teams for both our Sabbath morning services continue to prayerfully plan and implement creative expressions that draw this worshiping community to the throne room of our Creator every Pioneer Sabbath. “Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation” (Psalm 95:1).

Friendship in GROW Groups

My wife and I have been involved in GROW Groups at PMC since their inception a couple of years ago.  We strongly believe in them because of what we have seen them accomplish.  We already knew many people at PMC, but GROW Groups not only helped us make new friends but to build deeper relationships with many of the people we already knew.

There is something transformational that happens in GROW Groups that does not happen in any other activity of the church.  This is the real fellowship that the early church talked about and it was the defining characteristic of early Christianity and Adventism. Forming this kind of relationship is how you get to truly love one another. We have seen it in our own lives and in the lives of those who take part in our GROW Groups.  If you want your Christianity to be more than nominal, to be truly transformational, then consider joining a GROW Group this semester.

Hometown Hero

OK—so he’s from Battle Creek instead of Benton Harbor. But he certainly is a hero down here in southwest Michigan! The two families, who were both celebrating birthdays this last weekend at the Silver Beach hotel down by the lake in St Joseph, didn’t know each other from Adam. But given the winter outside, the hotel’s heated pool was a popular hang out Saturday evening. . . read more
