Community Volunteer Awards

On Thursday, 26 November I had the pleasure of presenting a Moncrieff Community Volunteer Award to Bill Crouch from the Rotary Club of Surfers Paradise and Volunteering Gold Coast. These awards are a way to recognise those who enrich our community with dedication and hard work. The contribution of our selfless Moncrieff volunteers is a shining example of what makes the Gold Coast an even better place to live.

In usual circumstances, I would host this award ceremony in one of our local community centres. This year however, due to COVID-19, I am presenting these awards in more intimate settings with only a few award recipients at each presentation.

Bill was nominated for his outstanding contribution to Volunteering Gold Coast. Every week Bill transfers patients to and from appointments without ever expecting any thanks or credit. Bill is a fantastic member of our community whose positive attitude and friendly demeanour helps many in our community who need extra assistance at this time.

Congratulations Bill and I look forward to presenting all our 2020 recipients with their awards in the near future.

Moncrieff Community Cabinet

In the first week of the COVID-19 crisis, I established the Moncrieff Community Cabinet made up of community leaders, multi-cultural and faith based organisations. Some of these organisations include Volunteering Gold Coast, Rotary, the Gold Coast Islamic Society, the Central Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce, the Gold Coast Sikh Association, Multicultural Families Organisation, the Greek Orthodox Church of St Anna and the Southport Chamber of Commerce.

The Moncrieff Community Cabinet is designed to ensure that the heart of the Gold Coast is working together to share trusted sources of information and to provide feedback to the Federal Government through my office. Our Cabinet has proved an extremely successful initiative. In July we met for a morning tea and to present certificates of appreciation to the founding organisations of the Moncrieff Community Cabinet.

I strongly encourage any community organisations within Moncrieff who would like to join the Community Cabinet to contact Dannielle in my office. Get in touch with us if your community group would like to include your news or stories in our next newsletter.

Supporting Those in Need

On my website, I have created an easy online tool called the Moncrieff Community Support Map. This interactive map shows a range of community services that are available to support those who need a helping hand. Some of the wonderful organisations that you can find on this map include St John's Crisis Centre, Angels Kitchen, headspace Southport, Australian Red Cross and so many more.

If you offer assistance to our community and would like your organisation to be included on the Moncrieff Community Support Map, please contact Dannielle from my office for more information.
