FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE AUGUST 9, 2021 CONTACT: HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY - VOLUME 2: Abuse Survivor Jon Vaughn Demonstrates University of Michigan Regent Jordan Acker's Blatant Hypocrisy Over the Handling of the Anderson Sexual Abuse Case ANN ARBOR - Former University of Michigan athletes, and sexual abuse victims, are taking aim at several Board of Regents members who have been hypocritical in their refusal to call for an investigation into the systemic breakdown of protocols that allowed for decades of sexual assault and rape by Dr. Robert Anderson, and the subsequent cover-up. Last week Spotlight Michigan released the first video in its "Highlighting the Hypocrisy" campaign, and featured former Michigan running back Jarrod Bunch ('86-'90) using Regent Jordan Acker's own tweets from 2018 to show how hypocritical his silence has been in recent months regarding Dr. Anderson and UM. Today, Spotlight Michigan is launching the second video in that campaign. Former Michigan running back Jon Vaughn ('88-'90), who was forced to provide sperm samples to Dr. Robert Anderson while a college athlete, highlights how Regent Acker's tweets in 2018 show both a stunning hypocrisy and an unwillingness to do the right thing for hundreds of victims of sexual abuse. In the video above, Vaughn says: "IN JULY OF 2018, JORDAN ACKER EXPRESSED STRONG OPINIONS REGARDING THE MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY CASE AGAINST DR. LARRY NASSAR. ACKER CALLED FOR *ANYONE* IN A POSITION OF POWER TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SEXUAL ASSAULTS COMMITTED BY DR. NASSAR. HE TWEETED: "QUOTE – The standard is not did I follow the minimum the law requires. The standard is did I know of something that happened and treat someone else’s children the way I’d want mine to be treated? If the answer is no, you have to go.- END QUOTE. "CHAIRMAN ACKER, I’M SOMEONE’S CHILD. AND I WAS RAPED MORE THAN 45 TIMES BY AN EMPLOYEE ON YOUR CAMPUS. IS THAT HOW YOU’D WANT YOUR CHILD TREATED? "I’M FORMER UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN ATHLETE JON VAUGHN AND I’M HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY."
