Koning named new Commissioner of Community Services

Following a fulsome recruitment process, Regional Council has approved Henri Koning as Niagara Region’s new permanent Commissioner of Community Services, effective immediately.

As Commissioner of Community Services, Koning will oversee the Community Services department, which includes Children’s Services, Homelessness and Community Engagement, Housing Services, Seniors Services, and Social Assistance and Employment Opportunities.

Koning has been with Niagara Region since 2012 as the Director of Seniors Services. As director, she oversaw the Region’s eight long-term care homes and seniors community programs. In addition, Koning oversaw the redevelopment of two long-term care homes in St. Catharines and Fort Erie.

Prior to joining Niagara Region, Koning held leadership positions in various public and private sector long-term care facilities, including those in Halton Region and Muskoka District.
