While the dancing will be as usual that night, outside in the hallway… Back by popular demand! We’ve been mostly hosting these in the summer months, but lately there have been so many requests for another one that we just had to make one happen! As usual, bring over your NEW or SLIGHTLY USED and CLEAN clothing, shoes, or accessories you no longer want. We’ll have a corner where you can put / hang your things and look at stuff that other people brought. If you like something, it’s yours! At the end of the night, don’t forget to pick up your items that weren’t claimed by anyone, as everything that is left behind will be donated. Everyone is welcome to participate! We usually have more things brought than taken, so by all means, stop by and take a look! February Series: Register Now!Level 1 (8:15pm - 9:15pm) Hop on the fast track to amazing swingouts! Journey through the 8-count world on the road to Lindy Hop. You'll learn some cool ways to move your feet to the rhythm, as well as some some flashy figures. But best of all, you'll gain more confidence with a widening swing repertoire, paving the way to even more fun with your partner! PRE-REQUISITES: None. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!
Level 2 (7:15pm - 8:15pm) Did you know that 8-count moves could become 6-count moves and vice versa? Did you know you could mix 8-count and 6-count moves with impunity? Learn how to lead and follow the difference, and what to do when it all changes! PRE-REQUISITES: Level 1A-D; twice through recommended. Execute a swingout, lindy circle, charleston and 6-count moves and transition between them in open and closed positions. No partner required, just bring your enthusiasm!
Level 3 (7:15pm - 8:15pm) Whether it's Hot, Gypsy, Trad, Big Band, Groove, or Small Combo, does it really not mean a thing if it ain't got that swing? We will take a historical look at the Jazz timeline, what makes them different, and how different music might affect what you dance and when. Pre-requisites: at least one year of dancing and classes. PRE-REQUISITES: At least nine consecutive months of Level 1 and Level 2 including one full year of social dance, or discuss your eligibility with instructors. Under-qualified students will be asked to transfer to Level 2 in order to strengthen their fundamentals.
Elective (8:15pm - 9:15pm) Pure Balboa is a sweetheart swing dance that focuses on an incredibly subtle closed connection, often described as a 3 minute hug! For everyone who wants to learn – or revisit – the fundamentals, this four week series will cover comfortable Pure Bal connection, basic rhythms, movement, and variations. Attendance required for advancement to March's Intermediate Pure Bal class. PRE-REQUISITES: 3 months of Level 1 and/or previous Balboa experience recommended. No partner required; just bring your enthusiasm and comfortable clothes!

The Ivory Club Boys, an offshoot of the Hot Club of San Francisco, pay tribute to jazz violinist Stuff Smith and his Onyx Club Boys of the mid-1930s. One of a handful of violinists to populate the swing era, Stuff Smith is credited with being the first to play jazz on an electrically amplified violin, forever changing its role to a frontline solo instrument on par with horn soloists. Keep it Swingin'! See you out on the dance floor!Gilles, Lori, Tamara, Doug, Sophie, Patricia |
