Lilburn: Piano Music
Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music presented a concert of Lilburn's piano music in July. Head of Piano Studies, Jian Liu, was joined by Gillian Bibby, Richard Mapp and NZSM students for an eight work survey of this distinctive repertoire.

 
 

NZ music premieres

Don't miss the album release concert by Norman Meehan and Hannah Griffen: Small Holes in the Silence, songs based on works of NZ poets, 13 November.

Capital Choir, presents Shakey Places, a song cycle of fourteen NZ poems, composed by Felicia Edgecombe, on 15 November. The score is now available to purchase from SOUNZ.

Also on 15 November, Jade at the Pah presents the premiere of Peter Scholes's String Quartet No. 1.

 
 

653 Days, A Retrospective Concert of Music by Jeremy Mayall, on 15 November, marks the end of his tenure as University of Otago’s Mozart Fellow, and includes several world premiere performances.

On 5 December, Melting Furniture, a piano concerto by Karlo Margetić, will be premiered by Orchestra Wellington, with Michael Houstoun on piano.

 
 

Opportunities

There is still time to apply for Creative New Zealand/Jack C. Richards Composer-in-Residence 2016-17 at Te Kōkī New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University of Wellington. Applications close on 27 November.

APRA AMCOS have announced a brand new award for APRA Best Jazz Composition. The inaugural award will be presented in conjunction with Recorded Music New Zealand's Best Jazz Album award at the National Jazz Festival next year. Entries close 11 December.
