Dear ,

The ACT Government has announced that the ACT will enter a seven day lockdown from 5:00pm tonight.

During this time, you can only leave your home for essential reasons – essential employment, healthcare, essential groceries and supplies and up to one hour of outdoor exercise.

Mandatory mask wearing will also be reintroduced in the ACT unless an exemption applies such as communicating with a person who is deaf or hard of hearing and visibility of the mouth is essential for communication.

For health practitioners, the ACT Government has advised that during the lockdown period, telehealth or other virtual care options should be considered wherever possible and where clinically appropriate.

Health practitioners, including audiologists are also considered to be an “essential worker” during the lockdown period if they perform work that is essential for the continued operation of “essential health services”. In these circumstances, health services can be provided face to face.

“Essential health services” includes:

  • allied health services provided by allied health professionals working as essential workers in hospitals or in residential care facilities providing critical clinical care;
  • allied health services provided by allied health professionals working in private practice or community services;
  • allied health students on placement providing essential care in hospitals or in residential care facilities.

More information about the ACT lockdown requirements can be found here.

Please stay safe, and if there is anything we can do to assist you during this time, please don't hesitate to contact the office on 03 9940 3900 or email: info@audiology.asn.au

Yours sincerely,

Dr Tony Coles
