Philanthropic Foundations Canada (PFC) has made a strategic shift to play a larger role in engaging governments, civil society partners, and influencers to support Canadian philanthropy – in all of its diversity -- to contribute to a just and sustainable world. To that end, the Director of Policy and Communications is responsible for aligning and amplifying PFC efforts in advocacy and communications based on insights from our research and programs. A review of applications will begin on November 2nd, 2020. The position will remain open until filled. This survey invites funders to present their needs, related to information and knowledge sharing, that a data strategy could potentially address. The deadline to submit responses is October 16th, 2020, the goal is to develop a shared agenda that foundations will want to pursue together. Access It Here Racial Justice Giving is Booming: 4 Trends This article argues that donors of various income and wealth levels increasingly support racial equity causes and organizations. Specifically, the support for crowdfunding initiatives related to police brutality victims, direct support for grassroots organizations, support for historically Black colleges and universities, and Black philanthropists in leadership. Although much of this funding is available to a diverse amount of initiatives, may this be a reminder that long-term support is key when mobilizing resources that empower BIPOC leaders in the philanthropic community. They emphasize that coordinated systems-level responses are necessary to hold health-care institutions and workers accountable. Read More Groups Mobilize to Stop Community Spread of COVID-19 in Montreal “To effectively fight the pandemic that is spreading in our communities, you need community engagement.” Philanthropic Foundations Canada in coordination with a consortium of philanthropic foundations, public health authorities, and community leaders mobilize their resources as part of an awareness campaign for COVID-19. This article argues that by engaging communities with local government restrictions, people become relays of public health. Read More Research on Gifts in Wills in Canada With the goal to benchmark the landscape in Canada, the CAGP Foundation commissioned Environics Analytics to gather detailed research on legacy giving aiming to understand Canadians’ behaviour on leaving gifts to a charity in their Will. This report offers key demographics most interested in including a gift in their Will and the number one barrier preventing Canadians from leaving one. Read More Strengthening the Charitable Sector: The Muttart Foundation This program is open to social-service charities in Alberta and Saskatchewan as well as sector and subsector umbrella groups that have at least some members in Alberta and Saskatchewan. The Restructuring program will accept applications in three streams – support of discussions around mergers, creation of new alliances (with a special interest in shared-service models), and support for those charities which decide to cease operations on learning how to live with COVID-19. This publication, as part of the United Frontline Table’s toolkit, recommends policy stances aimed at protecting, repairing, investing, and transforming the preservation “of their traditional lands, waters and air, and the right to practice their spirituality and cultural lifeways.” Read More The Groundwork for Growing Giving Campaign Charities Aid Foundation launches this campaign that suggests “as many as 2.4 billion people are set to join the world’s middle classes by 2030.” It highlights the potential for fast-growing and emerging economies to deliver sustainable development.
