MASTER COACHES SERIES #2

Date: 29 March, 7:00pm
Venue: State Equestrian Centre
Registrations: Nominate

Habituation is the process where the horse learns to remain calm in the presence of unfamiliar or fear-inducing stimuli. This process is called Learning Theory and is an evidence based science that explains how animals and humans learn. It is a useful training tool to include in the training of the performance horse so it can cope with fearful or unusual stimuli in a sometimes unpredictable and high pressure environment that may affect performance.

Sharon Jarvis was keen to include this form of training in her preparation for the Rio Para Olympics on her horse Ceasy and asked EA NCAS Level 2 Coach Rebecca Thomas to help her. Come along to hear how Sharon, Ceasy and Rebecca embarked on this journey and the results that followed.

JUMPING - NEWS

SWAN RIVER SHOWJUMPING 26 MARCH

Due to the very large number of entries for this event, the organising committee requests that riders read the following to ensure the event runs smoothly:

  • Start Times: Course walk 7:30am, first class 8:00am sharp
  • Draws & Riding Order: To run efficiently, we need competitors to be ready at the gate in draw order for your classes otherwise you risk being disqualified from that class. If you have a reason to come out of order, please speak to the judge or gate marshal. Draws will be published by Friday 24 March.
  • Scratchings: If you need to scratch, please let us know in case someone wants to take your place.
  • Horse & Rider Details: Please check that you've put EWA numbers for you and your horse in My Details on Global Entries.
  • Parking: Parking for floats, trucks and cars is on the grassed area above the outdoor arena (right turn through the gate in front of the limestone carpark) - not in the paddock adjacent to this area. Please respect Gavin Foster's generosity in enabling us to use this area for parking and make sure you clean up all rubbish, manure and hay before you leave Brookleigh's grounds. Parking near the indoor arena is reserved exclusively for SRSJC committee, sponsors, guests - not for competitors (unless they have hired stabling/yarding near the indoor arena)!
  • Refreshments available for purchase on site.

We're pleased to welcome our guest international judge for this weekend's show, Joanna Gillespie (FEI-3/UK). Brookleigh's indoor surface is looking super and we look forward to seeing you there!

SHOW HORSE - NEWS

SHOW HORSE SEMINAR & FORUM SUCCESS

On Saturday 18 March, the EWA Show Horse Working Party hosted a Show Horse Judges Seminar at the State Equestrian Centre with guest speaker Lynda Hayes (VIC).

Lynda discussed the ideals of the sport from both a competitor and judge perspective. It was an important reminder for everyone as to what we are all working towards in participating, managing and growing the Show Horse discipline. The seminar was extremely well attended by both EWA and SHC accredited judges, with some travelling from country areas to attend.

At 2:00pm the Riders Forum took place, facilitated by EWA Chairperson Mr. Ron Fleming. The Forum presented an ideal opportunity for members to ask questions, express concerns, interact and contribute to the future of Show Horse in WA. A number of topics were open for discussion and this information will be available on the EWA website shortly.

Thank you to all who attended and to Lynda for sharing her insight, enthusiasm, knowledge and experience. Thanks must also be given to Tenille Walters for organising the Seminar, Ron Fleming for taking the time to facilitate the Forum and SHWP members Tenille Walters, Val Mayger, Kerry Wilson, Sharon Veccia for their assistance on the day.
