Habituation is the process where the horse learns to remain calm in the presence of unfamiliar or fear-inducing stimuli. This process is called Learning Theory and is an evidence based science that explains how animals and humans learn. It is a useful training tool to include in the training of the performance horse so it can cope with fearful or unusual stimuli in a sometimes unpredictable and high pressure environment that may affect performance.
Sharon Jarvis was keen to include this form of training in her preparation for the Rio Para Olympics on her horse Ceasy and asked EA NCAS Level 2 Coach Rebecca Thomas to help her. Come along to hear how Sharon, Ceasy and Rebecca embarked on this journey and the results that followed.
