For this pandemic Christmas, I say let’s forget Covid-19 for a quiet moment. Enough is enough already. Instead, I invite you to sit back with me and let the joy and wonder of Jesus’ First Coming invade our souls. I once saw a painting by Julius Gari Melchers simply titled, The Nativity. Perhaps it was the way the artist captured the brooding face of the husband-not-father as he leans forward on his squatted knees and pensively stares at the bedded Newborn tucked at his feet in that crude box of hay.

What makes Christmas special? That sounds like an easy question. It sounds so easy it must be a trick question, right? The truth is, it isn’t really a trick question. First and foremost, Christmas is about Jesus coming to be part of the human family in a very literal sense in order to make us part of God’s family in a very literal sense. We are now “joint heirs with Christ,” are we not? God sent us Christ because He loves family and all the things about family that make Christmas special to us.

The Hope of the ages! The year 2020, with its uncertainty, grief, and pain, concludes by bringing us to the manger of Bethlehem. Pioneer's Christmas Eve online premiere service, through music and the Word, shares the familiar story. Whatever you have experienced this year, may God's gift of Jesus, of the Hope of the ages, bring you comfort and joy. (Please note there will be no Christmas Eve program in the church this year.)

Neighbor to Neighbor Helps
At Neighbor to Neighbor, we've had a whirlwind year. Our brand new Thrift Store enjoyed a successful opening at the beginning of November, thanks to our dedicated volunteers and wonderful patrons. Sunday, November 22nd, was poised to be our grand dedication service. Restrictions on indoor gatherings had just been issued, so sadly the event was not as grand as initially anticipated.

Here we are, at another Christmas season. However, this 2020 Christmas is not like any other Christmas before. Did you notice that the lights and decorations are going up earlier this year? It seems that many people are tired of the gloom and discouragement this pandemic has caused. To encourage each other through this challenging and physically-distanced holiday season, the Pioneer Women’s Ministry team is delighted to share with you a moment of light each day until Christmas.
