The Dutch government's recent payment of 10.7 million euros will alleviate enrollment waiting times at international schools in the Netherlands, improving the investment climate for foreign companies and their workers. The investment will enable approximately 1,150 additional international students to pursue their education in the short-term.

Utrecht University and the University of Sydney sign extensive partnership agreement

Utrecht University and the University of Sydney signed a partnership agreement valued at $200,000 a year. It is the first academic agreement between Australia and the Netherlands of such extensive international cooperation.

Under the terms of the agreement, both universities have agreed to annually contribute $100,000 for three years to support a joint funding program that will grow research links across a variety of academic fields.

Utrecht and Sydney also signed a "super exchange" agreement aimed to boost the number of exchange students between the two universities. The five-year agreement could eventually see up to 100 students a year from Utrecht studying in Sydney, with a similar number of Australian students traveling to Utrecht for their studies.

Consul-General Willem Cosijn and Trade Officer Nicoline van Cann were present when the agreement was officially launched by Utrecht University President mr. Marjan Oudeman and University of Sydney Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Duncan Ivison.

The number of international students in NL hits a record high!

This academic year, 112,000 international students are studying at Dutch universities. Over 81,000 of them are enrolled in a full bachelor- or master degree.

The Netherlands attracts many international students due to the quality of education and the fact that the country has the highest amount of English taught university degrees on the European mainland. Dutch universities prepare their students well for the job market. On top of that, there is no language barrier for international students since nearly all Dutch people speak fluent English!

In April, the Dutch diplomatic missions were present at international exchange fairs of UNSW, UTS and ANU to promote the Netherlands as a destination for Australian students.

For example, Fontys University of Applied Sciences FHK in Tilburg launched a brand new International Master program: Performing Public Space (PPS).
