Reminder 2.4 % Staff Award Pay Rise from 1st July 2016?

According to Fair Work Australia, did you know that on the 1st July 2016 your staff may be legally entitled up to a 2.4 % pay rise? Also just announced is a new option for people to be paid out their four weeks’ annual leave. Just ensure it is in writing!

If you are thinking of absorbing future wage increases, ensure you have properly implemented the employment laws with the right employment agreements in place, or your practice will risk fines of up to $54,000 per breach. It only takes one staff member to complain before the bad news spreads. There are better solutions. Freezing staff wages should be a last resort as it will hurt staff morale. For more ideas on how to avoid negative impacts of the wage rise for your practice read on.

To reduce fatal medical errors, look to the world of accountancy...

AFTER heart attacks and cancer, medical errors are the third biggest cause of death in Australia. And believe it or not, there’s an easy solution without having to invest the billions we spend on other medical research.

Human error accounts for about 40 deaths per day in Australia’s health care system, according to a recent BMJ study. A further 50,000 Australians are injured annually through medical mistakes. In comparison, Australia’s national death road toll is far lower at 1,400 a year. We have an internationally proven solution. What do you think?

David Dahm's new national medical media blog....

I was honoured to receive contact from the influential Medical Observer paper to publish a new blog normally reserved for the medical profession. Their website receives over 110,000 influential reader visits per month.

My first post was why the medical and healthcare profession does not have peer reviewed internationally accepted healthcare and ethical standards like the accounting profession.

Why do they leave it up to the government to regulate? Is this a good thing for patients and providers? The paper was pleased to report that the blog had already received 500 views within a few days. I hope you help me start influencing change in our healthcare system for the better. To join and share this and many more challenging discussion read on.
