Hutt Valley Business Weekly

Kia Ora ,

This is not some chant for the next rugby game, or a cry for help, although it might be for many employers.

It is, however a reminder that the Hutt Valley Chamber of Commerce, or our partners and members, can help with your talent needs. We have a number of options that might be of support for you and your business.

Education to Employment – we support your connection to future talent in our 14 secondary schools across the Hutt Valley. Amanda Walters can support you in identifying rangatahi that could be your next superstar employee. This can include giving them some experience whilst they are still in school to help them build their skills and for you to see their potential, attitude and fit for your team.

Engineering Talent – working with some schools across the Hutt Valley, we support connections between students and employers to provide engineering work experience that is connected to relevant student learning. This programme has recently seen the establishment of the Naenae Engineering Academy. As an employer, you get to help some local rangatahi and see future talent for your business.

Summer of Engineering – if you could support a graduate working through their university study, then Summer of Engineering might be for you. This programme helps you access engineering interns or graduates.

Come and hear more about the Summer of Engineering programme at our event on 13th June. You can read more below and sign up here.

We also have a partner and member that provide excellent recruitment services in our region. I am sure they would be able to help you and your businesses.

1.    Our partner, Equip Recruitment, has a great team based here in the Hutt Valley, ready to help.
2.    Our members in the recruitment space include Sarah Wilson Recruitment

Have a great Kings Birthday Weekend.

Connect to your next generation of engineering talent

RiverLink awarded NZPI Best Practice Award

Between the 7th of  June until  July 2023, Brittons House Movers will be removing and relocating some buildings in Pharazyn and Marsden streets.
This is part of RiverLink - a transformational set of projects for Te Awa Kairangi ki Tai (Lower Hutt), combining transport improvements, flood protection works and city centre revitalisation. Regional Updates

Help Upper Hutt City Council improve Upper Hutt’s transport network.

Upper Hutt City Council are working on a strategy to continue developing Upper Hutt’s transport network. This includes the roading network, freight, active transport, public transport, accessibility, and resilience.  This work will show how Upper Hutt’s transport network should continue developing so that people can stay connected, moving between places, activities, and goods and services.  But they can’t do it alone. They need your help to understand better what is and isn’t working well so they know what to focus on.

They have already had some engagement to discuss issues and opportunities around transport in Upper Hutt, and now they would love to get your feedback on the vision, the focus areas, the challenges we’re facing, and the outcomes they want to achieve to see if they have hit the mark or missed anything at this early stage.

Your feedback is important.

Upper Hutt City Council think what happens with transport in Upper Hutt in the future is important, and they want to give you or your organisation an opportunity to help shape and inform the development of this future.

How to share your feedback

Sharing your feedback is quick and easy.  Head to their engagement platform to read through the three information sheets and then fill out a short feedback form.

Go to https://letskorero.upperhuttcity.com/transport. Feedback is open until 18 June.

Experience the future of manufacturing by immersing yourself in the Virtual Nautech Smart Factory Tour; on 14th June.

Come to gain a truer understanding of Industry 4.0 and its implications for manufacturers!

Back in 2019, Nautech used to capture all the data, record in spreadsheets, analyse it all and review it at the end of the month – well, in the current age, that is too late.   You need to know now!  The whole Industry4 makes you realise the importance of connectivity from your ERP system to the factory floor, monitoring, displaying, and analysing it in real-time.

The virtual Smart Factory tour of Nautech is a unique experience of a highly advanced factory in NZ with a high level of industry4 integration across their entire business.  This is an eye-opening experience for manufacturing leaders and their teams to understand how integrating systems and technology will allow agility and rapid decision-making.

This is a FREE-to-attend event, and we encourage you to bring your team along to collaborate and share ideas while networking with other manufacturers.

Post-tour – You’ll have access to the ‘Digital Twin Capture’ of Nautech for two weeks. A great opportunity to explore specific areas in more depth and guide other team members through the experience.

When: 14th June 2023
Time: 8.30am – 11:30am
Where: Callaghan Innovation, Gracefield Innovation Centre, 69 Gracefield Road, Lower Hutt

Numbers are limited to 18 participants.
