Fabulous Commodore's Garden Party

Deb Blackmore

Beauties by the pool

The amazing food

Commodore Peter Blackmore and his first mate Deb hosted an outstanding garden party at their lovely home in Atherton on Sunday. The party was extremely well attended and included wonderful food and drinks including British specialties, a  rag-time band, lawn games,  RC sailboat races in the pool, plus valet parking for all.

Every detail and refreshment was so thoughtful and grand. Their beautiful home provided a terrific venue for an afternoon garden party for our Club. This was a fabulous time and the weather cooperated. Peter and Deb have brought this Club to new levels and for that we are all very grateful. We shall be talking fondly of this event for many years to come.  Jolly good show!!

Past Commodores Dinner - Saturday June 8th

Ahoy Sequoia

We have one of our annual major social events of the year this week-end: the Past Commodores dinner.  We celebrate our Past Commodores and in return they are invited to share an anecdote from their year that is funny or noteworthy. It has to be brief!!

Whilst it is for the Past Commodores it is important that ALL members know this is for everyone!

What happens? We gather for cocktails at 5.30-6.00pm. The normal but very special Sequoia repartee will be in full flow to match the cocktails.

Then we have a great dinner starting at 6.30pm which this year is being masterminded by our own Chef Extraordinaire - yes the one and only Steve  Higgs. You have a choice of fantastic Steak or Salmon with mouth watering salads and dessert. Cost $25 per head. The best deal in town! The dinner is served by the Sea Scouts so you will have the pleasure of being gracefully seated and just enjoy the dinner!

We have many Past Commodores signed up so now it is your turn to do the same. You will not only have a great dinner in good company but also enjoy the anecdotes from the Past Commodores. They can be priceless!

If one of them goes on a little too long we also have the tradition of the 'HOOK!'. That is acting parlance for being called off stage. I have seen none other than Rick Gilmore (as the official hook of the evening) sidle up to a Past Commodore  in mid but lengthy flow and without ado they stutter to a halt. Also piceless but all good fun.

We then have our Rear Commodore having the challenge of nominating the best anecdote from the Past Commodores of the evening. You can shout loudly for whom you vote for......

So another great evening at Sequoia. The Past Commodores have signed up. All are welcome. If you haven't signed up yet check with Joanne Wright to see if any space is left.

Another social event not to be missed  - please join us!

Bartender Basics Workshop - Monday June 10th

We need more club members to help serve drinks at the Bar. I'm not saying just for my program but folks, we are summer sailing busy down here! Lots and lots of really positive and over the top big fun is being had by all, and guess what? We need help. So here's the plan,....shhhh,....we get the regular bartending type peoples of the club to show us not so lets say "confident behind the bar" types, how it's done. You say to yourself, "self, that looks like fun and something I could do back there but I have no idea how to do that". And so here we go!

(Voice from way back in your county fair announcing days)
Monday, Monday, Monday, from the hours of 7-8:30pm, that's June 10th for you calendar markers, our own Dynamic Duo of Bartending Aficionado, Ro-Nald-Ooo How-ard and his trustworthy sidekick Nicky Web-errrr will be presenting a "Bartender Basics 101" workshop at the club. All Members and their spouses are encouraged to attend. Who knows when this very informative workshop will work for you? Space is available for all and no there is no sign up. In fact we won't even keep track of who was there.(yeah right). Anyway,...Here's a sample,...OMG I almost forgot to make mention,...our own Professor of Mixolgy, Tod Kligl-errrr will be professing over the mixation of drinkology. You don't want to miss that class. Now back to the sample outline,...what glass do I use, how many shots is that, the keg ran out, now what?  How much should I charge, what's this gun thingy, does our cash register work, wine what's that, where's the limes, is Fred still the bar manager, do we take credit cards and finally, what do you do with a drunken sailor?(That could be a song)

I really hope to see you guys at the club Monday night. Volunteering to help behind the bar is a kick! (I probably shouldn't add this but it's way better than some of those other things we do)

And by the way be sure to bring an apron...
