Without a new source of revenue, the city budget must include $35 million in cuts. While we are grateful that Mayor Fischer’s budget included some provisions for homeless services, that doesn’t mean Metro Council will vote to keep them. And it is now up to our 26 Metro Council members to propose and vote on the final budget. If you care about the lives of the homeless, please join us calling, emailing, or visiting your councilperson, STARTING TODAY, when there is a Metro Council meeting. Find your councilperson here, then call or send them an email. Say the following: “I know it will be difficult to create a balanced budget that includes $35 million in cuts. Programs and services for the homeless save lives and protect public safety. Please do not cut homeless shelters, outreach programs, evidenced-based drug treatments, and prevention—which are funded through Resilience and Community Services, EAF, and NDF funding pools. Thank you for your compassion.” Thanks for joining us once again in this fight for the needs of the poor and homeless in our community. The third annual Craft Beer Throwdown will be held next Thursday, May 30, from 5-8pm at Louisville Water Tower Park. Get your tickets now and help us find the best new craft beer in Louisville, while raising funds to prevent and end young adult homelessness! Seven local craft breweries are bringing their best new brew to compete for the coveted title: defending champ Gravely Brewing Co., Falls City Brewing, Holsopple Brewing, Against the Grain Brewery, Mile Wide Beer Co., Akasha Brewing, and Goodwood Brewing. Your ticket, a $20 donation to the Coalition, comes with a commemorative pint glass, samples of each new brew, and a token for voting. There will be yard games, a bourbon pull, a silent auction, and food from Moe-licious BBQ and The Comfy Cow, plus live music from local favorite Frederick the Younger! All proceeds from the Craft Beer Throwdown will be used to prevent and end youth homelessness in Louisville. The Coalition and 70+ community partners are working to address the needs of more than 800 local youth who experience homelessness each year, helping them move from the streets to permanent housing. Tickets are available online until May 30 at noon, then available at the door for a suggested donation of $25. Tickets may be purchased only by persons 21 years and older. No one under the age of 21 will be admitted.
