Upcoming Events with Aboriginal Services Reconciliation Speaker Series - We are beyond thrilled to host Dr. Evan Adams who will be launching our Reconciliation Speaker Series with his talk entitled, "Two-Eyed Seeing, Implementing the TRC Calls to Action on Health". He is coming to Mary Hall in Nelson on Wednesday March 7th from 7-9pm. Everyone is welcome, including health professionals. There is no cost to attend. Here is a video entitled Wellness, two-eyed seeing and system change. Please spread the word widely and bring your friends!! We are delighted to have Dr. Leroy Littlebear come back on April 4th from 7-9pm at the Civic Theatre. He will share his perspectives on Indigenous worldviews in Education and implementing the education TRC calls to action. Tickets will be available soon at the Civic Theatre. Stay tuned for details! Ongoing Programming with Aboriginal Services Cultural Expressions with Ann-Marie Cultural Expressions continues every Thursday at the Gathering Place in Castlegar from 10-2pm, Join us for crafts, storytelling, legends and teachings. All supplies and a light lunch provided. All students and staff are welcome. Ann-Marie will be continuing to alternate weeks between Trail and Nelson 10th st campus on Wednesdays from 11-2pm. She will coming to the Silverking campus on March 14th from 2:30-4:00pm. Ann-Marie will be visiting our learning centres on a Monday from 11-2pm, Kaslo on March 19th, Grand Forks on March 26th, and Nakusp on April 9th. Indigenous Drumming at the Gathering Place Join our Facilitator, Shemmaho Goodenough, an Elder Singer and drummer is a mentor teacher for Indigenous Songs. Join us at the Gathering Place to honour the achievements of our Indigenous graduates with their families, a large group of our Elders, as well as our Aboriginal College community. Deadline for application is March 31st, 2018, and this is open to all Aboriginal students, First Nations (status/non-status), Métis, and Inuit students. For certificates and diplomas, awards range form $1000-$2000 depending on length of program. Get in touch if you need help with the application! Selkirk College Entrance Scholarships - For those that are just applying for Selkirk, our entrance scholarship application period is open now and closes on March 31st. External Aboriginal Community Events & Opportunities On Wednesday, March 7, at 7pm, the launch the book, Not Extinct: Keeping the Sinixt Way, by Marilyn James and Taress Alexis at the Kootenay Gallery in Castelgar, Nelson at Touchstones on April 5 at 6:30 p.m. and in Kaslo at the Langham on April 12 at 7 p.m. Touchstones Nelson presents: Paul Seesequais: Indigenous Archival Photo Project is exhibiting until May 27th, 2018. VIDEA Aboriginal Scholarship is offering fully funded opportunities for Aboriginal youth between 18-35 to explore the world and contribute in a meaningful way. Apply here!
