Have your say on alternative route options

Thank you to the many hundreds who attended public meetings in Palmerston North, Woodville and Ashhurst earlier this week to learn more about the long list of alternative routes. With thirteen options on the table, we are now looking to get your feedback and thoughts before we draw together a shortlist.

You can give us feedback online at www.nzta.govt.nz/manawatu-gorge until midnight Wednesday 4 October.  Our ‘Social Pinpoint’ tool allows you to place your comments about each option on a map of the area. Alternatively, please email us at manawatugorge@nzta.govt.nz

We want to ensure that everyone across the region has an opportunity to take part in the feedback process, so please let us know what you think and tell others who may have not yet registered with us so that we can collect all feedback, comments and suggestions.

Please bear in mind that the routes on the long list are still very much indicative only.  We will have more detail on the shortlisted options in a couple of weeks.

We appreciate that Ashhurst is particularly concerned about the close vicinity to town of some routes.  We will continue to take your feedback on board and work with you during the development of the preferred option.

Your next opportunity to provide feedback will be a series of public open days which are currently planned for Wednesday 11 October at the Palmerston North Convention Centre and Thursday 12 October at the Woodville Sports Centre. We are also planning a third open day at Ashhurst and will give you an update on this as soon as we have confirmed the details.

We appreciate that the community needs certainty on a new link across the range as soon as possible.  We are considering issues such as geological stability, environmental effects, residents’ concerns, constructability, cost and time to identify a preferred option

Saddle Road upgrade

We are continuing to monitor the Saddle Road and make repairs as required to ensure it remains fit for purpose. We are finalising plans for completing the last two sections for the Saddle Road upgrade and it is anticipated that these works will commence in late 2017. We are actively working on minimising the impact of the works for the travelling public.

Please check out our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/nztacni/ for the latest news and updates on the works.
