Introducing new ICM President and Board Members The Hague, Netherlands: August 2017 - The International Confederation of Midwives is delighted to introduce Franka Cadee as the ICM President for the 2017-2020 triennium. Franka succeeds Frances Day-Stirk whose six year tenure ended on completion of the ICM Triennial Congress in June 2017. The ICM Council elected ICM's new Board during the Council meeting held prior to the Congress in Toronto. The Board comprises: President, Franka Cadee; Vice President, Mary Kirk; Treasurer, Ingela Wiklund, Jemima Dennis-Antwi and Dicko Fatoumata S Maiga from the Africa region; Sandra Oyarzo Torres and Emmanuelle Hérbert from the Americas region; Hatsumi Taniguchi, Rafat Jan and Emi Nurjasmi Indomo from the Asia Pacific region; Trude Thommesen, Rita Borg-Xuereb and Serana Debonnet from the Europe region. This Board, under the direction of the ICM Council, provides governance leadership for the 2017-2020 triennium. Half of the Board are previous Board members, returning for a further term while half are new to the ICM Board. Franka Cadee, new ICM PresidentFranka Cadee brings to ICM more than 30 years of strategy and policy development, advocacy, leadership, project management and partnership. She also brings in diverse skills in fundraising, international diplomacy, research and evaluation as well as inspiring midwives and strengthening the midwifery profession. Franka has lived and worked across a range of differently resourced countries and is well aware of the realities of midwifery practice in various cultural contexts. She is a strong proponent of humanised midwifery care and encourages midwives towards respectful care and a human rights based approach. Currently, Franka is the Strategy and Policy Manager with the Royal Dutch Organisation of Midwives (KNOV). She is known to many for her work as the twin2twin project manager. Previously, Franka served in the ICM Board as treasurer (2002-2008) and on the ICM Council as a KNOV Delegate (2008 -2017). Franka Cadee's message Over the coming triennium our organisational priorities will be to advocate for the expansion of the midwifery workforce worldwide to ensure humanised and equitable midwifery care within an enabling environment. The ICM will contribute to improved global health in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by means of comprehensive programming for high-quality midwifery services in partnership with women and in collaboration with fellow stakeholders, governments, and civil society organisations working for a healthier, happier world. It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I introduce to you the new Board members for the 2017-2020 (as seen on the photo below) triennium. I look forward to meeting with our partners, member associations, donors and stakeholders all in person as the opportunity arises, and continuing the meaningful work between ICM and our partners over the coming three years and beyond. I believe in the importance of a united midwifery voice and I want my leadership within ICM to exemplify collaboration and participation for all.
