3 Children's Stories You Could Never Tell the Kids: Of Rats and Apps and SpaceX

Did I hear that right? WBBM News Radio from Chicago ran a piece this morning on COVID-19's fall out in the Windy City. Turns out that with so many bars and restaurants empty during this lockout, the rodents used to feeding off the garbage in the back alley have hit the road in search of new food sources, such as residential domiciles. We're talking rats! Says Robert Villamil, owner of Crow Pest Control: "'Rats are wild and are looking for food and trying to survive'" (abc7chicago.com/amp/coronavirus-rats-chicago-rat-warning-cdc/6213457). Turns out the Centers for Disease Control is warning now of "'unusual or aggressive rodent behavior'" from rats starved out of their usual haunts in big cities (ibid). Moral of the story–like rats, sin feeds on garbage kept "out back"–get rid of the garbage if you don't want the rat feasting off of you...

Pioneer Re-entry Update

Tuesday evening the Pioneer church board and board of elders convened a collective conversation regarding a timeline and protocol for our congregation's re-entry into the sanctuary, Sabbath School rooms, Commons, and Board Room.

Because Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer last Thursday extended our home-bound orders until June 12, the leaders decided to forestall any specific re-entry date until Michigan further modifies its mandated lockdown. At present, the governor has given permission for groups of ten and under to meet (with social distancing and mask protocol). But also at present, Pioneer is blessed with multiple creative lockdown adaptations to worship and Sabbath School--from popular Zoom Sabbath School classes to family circle worship/Sabbath Schools (via YouTube videos created by our Sabbath School and youth leaders for homebound online use). To the place, some are suggesting we give study to eventually creating house churches (multiple families) that might thrive in the midst of further national or local uncertainties...

Family, Faith, & Fun!

This week when you go for a walk, play the rainbow game. Look for things that are the same colors as the colors of the rainbow. Go in order (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). Each family member can look for their own rainbow colors, or you can do it together as a family. While you’re searching, remember God’s rainbow promise to us and the amazing double rainbow we had last Sabbath evening. What a special end of Sabbath treat and a reminder that God is still in control even in the midst of the storms we find ourselves in. Then take some time to create rainbow artwork. You could use colored pencils, markers, paint, colored paper or tissue paper, stamps, strings, melted crayons, or anything else you can find! Or write a story or poem about rainbows!
