Well, the week we have been working towards and looking forward to, but which seemed like it would never arrive has happened! And what a fantastic week it has been. We have seen students from 89 countries arrive here in Wolfson. They may come from across the globe, and they have many different educational experiences, but they bring with them a common excitement, sense of adventure, determination and impatience to see the new term begin. ALUMNI & DEVELOPMENT NEWSA thank you message from the Development Director Welcome to this take-over edition of Ring True by the Development Office Team as we say thank you for your support these past few months and bring you up to date with what is happening at the College during Michaelmas Term. We cannot overstate how thankful we are for the generosity of our donors, as during this challenging time every little does truly help with making sure our students have the best opportunities possible, such as the new Wolfson BAME MPhil awards. In the past six months, almost 250 of you have donated, raising over £300,000 for the College. Wonderful messages of goodwill and support accompanied many of your gifts. We wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to you all! Continue reading... New Wolfson face coverings & COVID restrictions Seen here worn by our Bursar Jo Cheffins, we have received a new batch of Wolfson-branded face coverings to help protect staff and students during the current coronavirus health situation. Thank you to the Emeritus Fellows whose generous gift has been really appreciated in this challenging time. We would also like to remind people that College is closed to anyone who is not a current member, and would request that current members check guidance before visiting. As soon as we are able to open the College to alumni and the wider Wolfson community, we will update this guidance. Porters' Lodge Renovation We think you'll agree that the newly-refurbished Porters' Lodge is looking very fine. Possible due to a generous anonymous donation, you can read more about Head Porter Mike Wignall's thoughts on it on the website. AROUND COLLEGESomalinimo: Young, gifted, Somali... and at Cambridge A film made by writer, producer and Wolfson alumna Awa Farah (MPhil African Studies, 2017), exploring four Somali women's experiences navigating Cambridge University will be screened for students at Wolfson this evening, with a livestreamed panel discussion – open to all. This is part of Wolfson's Let's Talk About Race and Racism series during Black History Month. Since its publication by the Guardian in September, Awa has been delighted with the warm reception Somalinimo has received: "The response has been overwhelming! Receiving messages from people from all backgrounds, saying that they resonate with the story, has been incredibly heart-warming" Interdisciplinary Research Hubs You can now keep up to date with the latest from Wolfson’s Interdisciplinary Research Hubs online.
