Fighting for Safe and Healthy Communities

In March we successfully passed two bills through the Senate Transportation Committee, both of which I believe will improve communities across Texas:SB128 & SB368. SB 128 requires those applying for Commercial Driver Licenses to receive information on how to identify and report signs of human trafficking. Enlisting  truck drivers across Texas in the fight against human trafficking will help local law enforcement save victims. SB 368 will help us crack down on salvage yard owners in  unincorporated Harris County who consistently violate the law and endanger their neighbors in Senate District 6 .

Hobby Fest 2017

Join the Hobby Area Management District (HAMD) for the 25th Annual Hobby Fest taking place Saturday, April 15th at the Hobby Airport East Ramp. Hobby Fest is an annual event to thank the local community for their support, and to help raise scholarship funds for local students. Entry to the event will be free with the donation of one non-perishable food item. The event will have free food and drinks, along with fun family activities such as:  face painting, a video game bus, balloon artists, a moonwalk, a live DJ, and raffles with prizes. 6th Annual Sabor Del Northside

On April 1st my staff and I attended the 6th Annual Sabor Del Northside at Castillo Park. Sabor Del Northside is a free, public festival that brings together residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations of Houston’s Northside neighborhood in celebration of its vibrant culture. It was a great opportunity to visit with constituents after being in Austin for the legislative session. If you didn’t make it out this year, be sure to check out the festivities in 2018!

Spring is here again! With flowers blooming and nature bursting with life, this time of year is full of beauty and inspiration. The legislative session is in full swing, and I am more motivated than ever to work hard to get legislation passed that will help as many people as possible across Texas. I remain humbled by the opportunity to represent you in the Senate, and believe the new season will provide many opportunities for Senate District 6 to shine. As you celebrate Good Friday and Easter, or just a restful weekend with your family, I hope you'll take time to appreciate the beautiful weather, and all of the many blessings we enjoy.
