St John's School Newsletter Term 4 Week 7
St John's is a Child Safe School where all children are respected and are protected from harm. Principal's Message Dear Parents, Thank you!- a lovely way to start the newsletter! Thank you to Margie Asquith and Goodstart Early Learning for the very kind donation of craft supplies and over 200 skipping ropes that we will use next year for Jump Rope for Heart. Thank you to Mick Hamill for giving up his Sunday to check over our emergency lighting system that comes into action if we have a power outage. Thank you to Melissa Brown for the plant cuttings. Melissa sent in a large bag and box of cuttings that we have used to fill up the planter boxes on Binney St and the garden area at the back of the sensory area. Thank you to the Bowater family for their kind donation of many new books for our library. MacKillop Art Show Winners! - Congratulations to all students whose art pieces were submitted into the MacKillop Art Show and we were very excited to learn that the Year 3 and 4 students and Grace Eddy received awards. Well done Mrs Watson and all students for their hard work! School Closure Day - On Monday 30th November, staff will be completing a First Aid Course and planning for 2021 so this will be a student free day. TheirCare will be providing care for students on this day from 7am until 6pm. For most families the average cost is as little as $9 for a child to attend a full day of care with breakfast, morning and afternoon tea supplied. If you are interested please book your child in as soon as possible through the TheirCare website. TheirCare School Holiday Program - We have had confirmation that TheirCare will run a School Holiday Program exclusively for our students in January. Starting 11th January 2021, from 7am until 6pm each day. Please go to the TheirCare website to book in. Fees - Please make sure that your fees are paid by the 1st December. Thank you to the parents who have paid their fees. Plastic containers - Please make sure that if your child brings a plastic container to school that it is clearly named. At the end of each week we have a number of containers that we can’t find the owners of. Thank you for your support with this. Year 6 Graduation - Due to COVID restrictions this years Graduation celebrations have been modified. The Graduation Mass will be held on Friday 11th December just for Year 5 and 6 students under the tree in the Church yard. If restrictions ease we will re-assess this arrangement. The Graduation dinner will be held at Temple Kitchen & Co restaurant on Monday 14th December at 6:30pm. This will be for all Year 6 students and a small group of staff members. Thank you to Mrs Frewen for her hardwork and persistence in planning these events. Drink bottles - Please make sure that your child brings a drink bottle to school each day, adequate hydration helps us stay focussed. School Board Meeting and AGM - A reminder that our next school board meeting and AGM will be held next Tuesday at 6pm in the staffroom. Late Arrivals -The school day begins at 8:55am, so it is important that students arrive at school before this. Arriving before the bell allows students to unpack and catch up with their friends and teachers before the school day begins. If a student arrives late they miss out on important instructions about their learning for the day. Thank you for your support with this. Libby Hamilton. Calendar of Events
Religious Education Week 7 Prayer Feast of Christ the King: 22nd November: This feast is celebrated on the last day of ordinary time, the final Sunday before Advent begins. Christ Jesus, help us to see you in every one of our brothers and sisters around the world. Inspire us to reach out to those who are hungry, thirsty, lonely, sick or in prison. Matthew 25:31-46 When, Lord, did we ever see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you a drink? When did we ever see you a stranger and welcome you in our homes, or naked and clothe you? When did we ever see you sick or in prison, and visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these members of my family, you did it for me!’ We pray for the Church throughout the world: that it may see Christ in all people and be a shining example of Jesus’ message to us.
