Engagement finds strong support for proposed safety improvements

Story
Story

The purpose of the 18 July to 21 August 2017 public engagement was to explain the expanded package of safety improvements and get feedback from those who travel along SH58.

Key findings from the engagement feedback form include:

  • 51% think the proposed improvements will significantly improve safety and 37% think safety will be somewhat improved
  • 59% support the improvements, 23% oppose them and 19% aren't sure and want more information
  • 38% prefer an e-newsletter to stay informed about the project - this is the first! Another 24% prefer the website and 23% prefer Facebook.

The engagement included three community information days where the local residents were invited to meet with the project team to learn more about the project, ask questions and offer their thoughts and ideas for how it might be improved.

Sixty-eight people attended the information days and 88 feedback forms were submitted during the engagement.

The engagement produced many excellent suggestions for improving the project. The project team will take these ideas on board as they finalise the programme of work and prepare to lodge consents.
