Click here Niagara Region’s free compost giveaway returns September 28September 17, 2026 Niagara Region’s free compost giveaway returns this fall, giving residents an opportunity to pick up high-quality material for gardening and landscaping projects, while supplies last. From Sept. 28 to Oct. 3, 2026, Niagara Region is offering free compost at select Regional landfill sites in exchange for a cash or non-perishable food donation that will support local charitable organizations serving Niagara residents. While supplies last, Niagara residents can pick up a maximum of three 20-litre bags of compost at the following locations:
Through Niagara Region’s organics diversion programs, yard waste, food scraps, soiled paper products and other organic materials are diverted from landfill and processed into valuable compost. This diversion helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve landfill space, and transform organic material into a resource that can be returned to the soil. The resulting compost is rich in nutrients and can be used to support healthy flower beds, gardens, trees and landscaping projects throughout the community. Residents are responsible for loading compost into their own vehicles. Also, to help avoid delays, residents are encouraged to visit outside of peak days, including Mondays, Tuesdays and Saturdays.
