PNA HIGHLIGHTS & HAPPENINGS

Shop local at the Phinney Farmers Market

Neighborhood Farmers Market staff smile behind their booth at the Phinney Farmers Market

We love partnering with Neighborhood Farmers Markets to bring the community together at the Phinney Farmers Market every Friday from 3 to 7pm in our upper parking lot. The farmers market offers a unique outlet for farmers and shoppers to directly engage one another in a way that doesn’t happen anywhere else.

The community can meet the folks who grow our food, learn about their farms, and directly support their work through shopping. Meet farmers at the Phinney Farmers Market in the guest blog linked below and subscribe to Neighborhood Farmers Markets' Ripe and Ready e-newsletter for a weekly update on what's fresh at the market through Sept. 30.

We're thrilled to launch a new annual event called Bite of PhinneyWood on Sat, Sept. 17, to showcase our thriving local food scene. Bite attendees can try up to 25 restaurants with one ticket in our Phinney Center Upper Parking Lot.

Neighbors and businesses are looking forward to this new event, too. Martino’s chef and owner Chris Martino shared, “Having lived here for many years I'm excited to have this type of event. Phinney Ridge has some amazing restaurants and I'm excited to see everyone doing their thing.” Everyone who buys tickets before Sept. 2 is entered to win gift cards from participating restaurants. We are also seeking volunteers! This event is sponsored by Salmon Bay Community Lending.

Mission Moment

Grievers Library Book Box filled with books outside the Greenwood Senior Center.

The Grievers Library launched their first Book Box at the GSC on Aug. 11. “A Grievers Library, offering free books for bereaved children, teens and adults, is a medicine cabinet filled with love potions that belongs on our streets—for easy dispensing to those afflicted with heartache and despair,” shared their Project Manager Pamela Belyea.

Our Senior Programs Director Cecily Kaplan adds, "We are so proud to be part of this project. We're honored to host this little library of healing and comfort and that we can be part of supporting those in the greater community who are dealing with profound grief and loss." Come see the library and learn more about the project at: www.grieverslibrary.org.
