Obesity Policy ReviewThe Cancer Council WA's Obesity Prevention team has launched a new newsletter, the Obesity Policy Review. The first issue highlights key research projects delivered by the Healthway-funded Rapid Obesity Policy Translation Program. There are also links to articles on how our environment influences eating behaviours, and the policy changes that can be made to improve health outcomes. Making Smoking HistoryMake Smoking History (MSH) is proudly funded by the Department of Health WA, Healthway and Cancer Council WA. This September marked 20 years of MSH tobacco control in WA. As part of this milestone, a graphic new advertising campaign Voice Box was launched to illustrate the physical and emotional devastation of head and neck cancers caused by smoking. Watch the ad here.Apply for a scholarshipWestern Australian health promotion graduates can now apply for scholarships under Healthway and the Australian Health Promotion Association's (AHPA) Scholarship Program. The program will offer up to four scholarships each year. These include regional and remote, graduate, Aboriginal opportunities. Apply here. Find out more. Go for 2&5 Children's WeekThrough our partnership with Meerilinga Children's Foundation, we are proud to support Children’s Week 2020. Children’s Week will promote the Go for 2&5 message and Foodbank WA’s Superhero foods to encourage healthy eating. Image: Royal Life Saving WA, community garden for Jigalong Pool. Community garden for kidsThe Jigalong Pool has a new community garden to grow healthy fruits and vegetables. The garden is a wonderful addition for kids participating in the Swim for Fruit program and complements the work Healthway does with Royal Life Saving Society WA to increase healthy eating in the community. The Go for 2&5 Regional and Remote Aboriginal Communities Swimming Program (or Swim for Fruit) has been running for more than 10 years. Find out more. New opera learning hubThe new Act-Belong-Commit Learning Hub is now online thanks to a partnership initiative between the West Australian Opera and Healthway. The West Australian Opera developed the hub to bring students from around the state together to share their interest in opera. Motorcross season on track The 2020 Make Smoking History State Motocross Championship series is up and going. Our partnership with Motorcycling Western Australia provides junior and senior motorcycling programs and events that encourage a healthy and safe entry pathway to motorsport. This partnership also helps to promote the benefits of living a smoke-free lifestyle. Find out more.
