The end of ProFIT (and new beginning of local energy)The final local solar project to be funded by ProFIT, SCP's feed-in-tariff program, has been completed and is now operational. Since 2014, ProFIT has helped build 6 megawatts (MW) of new renewable energy sources here in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. That's enough to power 1,800 EverGreen homes! With more customers choosing to upgrade to EverGreen, SCP is in the process of creating a new Local Resource Plan to guide the development of future renewable energy facilities in our service territory. What are Time-of-Use (TOU) rates?Starting in April, most residential customers in Sonoma and Mendocino counties will be transitioned to a Time-of-Use (TOU) rate plan as part of a statewide effort to reduce strain on the electric grid, decrease the use of fossil fuels, and increase the use of renewable energy sources. When we use energy is just as important as how much energy we use. That’s why TOU rates offer cheaper “off-peak” electricity prices when demand is lower and more renewable energy is on the grid, and have more expensive “peak” hours generally in the late afternoon and early evening when demand is high and solar and wind generation decreases. Most SCP customers can benefit from a TOU rate without needing to make any changes to their current lifestyle or habits. However, small actions like shifting your energy use away from peak hours and running appliances, including your dishwasher or washing machine, during off-peak hours will help you save even more on your electric bill. TOU rates are not mandatory and customers can elect to say on their current rate by contacting PG&E through their website at pge.com/TOUchoice or calling 1 (866) 743-7945. Visit the link below to learn how TOU rates can help lower your bills, check out our helpful FAQs, and compare rate plans to find the best one for your household. Celebrate Earth Day!Every April 22nd, the world celebrates Earth Day. But here at SCP, we think about reducing greenhouse gas emissions and ways to mitigate the impacts of climate change every day. Just by being an SCP customer, you're already supporting the use of more renewable energy sources, cutting your emissions, and helping lead the way to a cleaner, healthier future for our community. For that, we thank you! If you're interested in doing even more, here are some ways to honor this year's Earth Day. Make every day Earth Day with EverGreen One of the easiest, yet most significant actions you can take to reduce your carbon footprint is choosing to power your home with 100% renewable energy. SCP's EverGreen service utilizes local solar energy by day and local geothermal energy by night, so you're never supporting dirty fossil fuels. For only about $13 more per month, you can nearly eliminate your emissions from electricity use and help SCP build new, local renewable sources. Ready to upgrade to EverGreen?
