Dear Regent families,

Welcome to the third week of term; I trust you'll enjoy this edition of Regent News. Don't forget that there is a special family concert, tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon, at the College. Details outlined within this communication.

Mrs Morris. You'll be missed. Big time!

A special assembly will take place to celebrate and honour Mrs Lynley Morris, who is retiring from her role as teacher and Deputy Principal, following 28 years of servant leadership in the College.

Families are invited to join students during this special assembly at 8.30am on Wednesday 25th November (upstairs in the Assembly Hall).

Thank you and God bless,

Derek Nicholls. Principal.

fun learning

Last week the Year 6 students went to Busselton for their camp at the Scripture Union camp site.

They participated in many fun activities including raft building, caving, visiting an animal farm and many more.  It was a very exciting week for all involved.

In Class 2.1 the students recently transformed into palaeontologists and conservationists.  They  researched on the internet the roles of both careers and discovered what tasks need to be achieved to fulfil the roles.

They had opportunities to excavate and search for dinosaur bones under the exploration tent, just outside the class room.  Once the bones were carefully recovered, they were able to reassemble the dinosaurs.

The students were using their collaboration skills to work in teams. They practiced mathematical concepts, whilst engaging in the reassembling of the dinosaurs and developing their research skills - all while inquiring further into the subject of extinct and endangered animals.

Year 3 science students were investigating the Earth’s rotation on its axis, giving us day and night.

Italian, for real

On Tuesday the 20th of October the Year fours and fives went into the City to employ their Italian language skills, to buy (and eat) gelato.

The students had great fun attempting to speak in Italian to the gelato lady, and then eat their ice-creams.

For art they also went to Forrest Chase and sketched the green sculpture called “Grow Your Own”.

continuing to care

Pre-primaries

After our planting session at the Regent College Exhibition of Learning last term, the children have been diligently watering and caring for all the plants. Our worm farm is working well, with plenty of food provided by fruit scraps and peelings that the children leave after fruit time.

The herb garden is flourishing and the lettuce is about to be harvested thanks to our scarecrow!

what an impression!

The Year 1 classes have been learning about Monet, the famous impressionist.

Each class worked together to paint The Japanese Bridge, including waterlilies in the pond and wisterias hanging over the bridge.

They painted in ‘blobs’ to create a similar impression to Monet’s work.

This week, select students participated in various athletics carnivals against other primary students from Christian schools.

the fathering project

On Wednesday evening, 35 Regent fathers joined together for an introduction to the Fathering Project.

In a nutshell, it is about dads coming together and supporting one another to become better fathers.

The next event includes the children and details are available on the College website or via the link opposite.
