What's happened in July

During July, enabling works began to prepare the site for construction. This involved carrying out survey and ground investigation work, removal of fencing and installing temporary fencing. Development of the detailed design continued.

Work included:

• Surveying and ground investigation in the shoulders to verify the location of existing utility services. Services such as power, gas and telecommunications need to be re-located before physical works can begin. Discussions with priority utility service providers are underway to confirm the design for these relocations.

• The removal of existing fencing and installation of secure temporary fencing along the Owens Place property boundary started.

• Development of the detailed design is about 50% completed and is on track to be finished by the end of 2017.

As part of the enabling works, hydro vacuum excavation is being used to locate utility services. Relocating these services will be one of the first tasks when construction begins.

What to expect during August

August will focus on completing the enabling works and beginning the relocation of utility services.

Work this month includes:

• Completion of the ground investigation and survey work in early August.

• Finishing the removal of existing fencing and installation of secure temporary fencing along the Owens Place property boundaries.

• Site office establishment in Titoki Place, involving preparation for service connections and installation of portacom buildings.

• Moving utilities before construction begins is the best way to avoid service disruptions to customers. At the end of August the relocation of fibre optic cables will commence. New ducts will be installed in the northbound shoulder close to the boundary to ensure services are clear of ground that pavements will be built on.
