KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE

On Monday, the Senate Subcommittee on Border Security will hear testimony regarding the repeal of the state law known as the “Dream Act." Passed in 2001, the Dream Act allows children of undocumented immigrants, regardless of their status, to pay in-state tuition at public universities and permits them to receive financial aid. Since its passage, the Dream Act has permitted thousands of young people to attain a college education and get one step closer to living the American dream. Repealing the Dream Act would be detrimental to our economy and to the future of countless young Texans. I pledge to do everything I can in the Senate to keep the dream alive.

FOURTH ANNUAL SABOR DEL NORTHSIDE

Please join Avenue CDC (Community Development Corp.) for the 4th Annual Sabor Del Northside on Saturday, April 11th at Castillo Park. Sabor Del Northside is a free, public festival that brings together residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations of Houston’s Northside neighborhood in celebration of its vibrant culture. Attractions will include live music, dance performances, student performances, a student art show, a children’s area, arts and crafts activities, a vendor fair, and a salsa contest. HOBBY FEST 2015

Join the Hobby Area Management District (HAMD) for Hobby Fest 2015 taking place Saturday, April 11th at the Hobby Airport East Ramp. Hobby Fest is an annual event to thank the local community for their support, and to help raise scholarship funds for local students. Entry to the event will be free with the donation of one non-perishable food item. The event will have free food and drinks, along with fun family activities such as:  face painting, a video game bus, balloon artists, a moonwalk, a live DJ, and raffles with prizes. A MESSAGE FROM SYLVIA

Spring is here again! With flowers blooming and nature bursting with life, this time of year is full of beauty and happiness. The cold and rainy winter that we just faced makes our recent spell of great weather all the more enjoyable; just as adversity truly makes us appreciate success. While there have been ups and downs so far this legislative session, I remain humbled by the opportunity to represent you in the Senate, and believe the new season will provide many opportunities for us to improve Senate District 6. As you celebrate Good Friday, Easter or Passover with your family, take time to appreciate the beautiful weather, and all of the many blessings we enjoy.
