Welcome to the Barnet Together (9 September 2021) newsletter featuring news, grants, training opportunities...

For those that missed the workshop on the Barnet Community Innovation Fund this morning, don't worry we have another one planned on Monday - do join us! This is an exciting opportunity for Barnet not-for-profit organisations working in one of the four priority areas to access funding.  The funding opens on 1 October and Debra Yardley from the Young Barnet Foundation and I will be on hand to support any organisations through the grant application process.  But remember this is just one of many funders who may be interested in your work, so do get in touch for a 1:1.

Barnet Community Innovation Fund - Round 2

Following the success of the pilot scheme in Spring 2021, the joint initiative with local NHS partners and Barnet's volunteer and community sectors represented by Barnet Together, are opening a second round of funding. A pot of £320,000 will be open for applications from 1 October 2021 and will close on 5pm on Monday 1 November.

The four funding priorities in Round 2 are:

  1. Mental Health and Wellbeing support particularly focusing on pandemic related crisis support and interventions
  2. Initiatives that promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  3. Sustainable Green Spaces for healthy leisure projects
  4. Projects supporting Families, Children  and Young people, with a particular focus on family health

  • CIF background and investment priorities
  • The criteria and eligibility
  • Application process
  • Assessment and some application do's and don'ts

The DWF Foundation supports registered charities with an impact in one or more of the following areas

  • Homelessness
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Employability
  • Education
  • Environment and Sustainability

Grants are given to initiatives that develop and improve local communities by:

  • Tackling a specific community issue.
  • Helping voluntary and community groups become more effective and efficient.
  • Encouraging the involvement in the community of those too often excluded.
  • Enabling young people to develop skills for the benefit of the community.

Grants up to £5,000

Life Changes Trust - Legacy Funding

Two funding streams for those working on projects for People Living with Dementia & Young People with Care Experience. 

1) The focus for dementia funding is on:

  • Dementia Friendly Communities
  • Peer Support
  • Meeting Centres

Closing date: Friday 15 October

2) For those with Care Experience there are funds to enable young people with care experience to harness the power of creativity to support their wellbeing, enable self-expression and take control of their own stories. 

Closing date: Tuesday 5 October

GSK Impact Awards and Grow Programme

The 2022 GSK IMPACT Awards are open to registered charities that are at least three years old, working in a health-related field in the UK, with a total annual income between £120,000 and £3 million. 

  • Up to ten winners receive £40,000, in unrestricted funding with the overall winner receiving an additional £10,000.
  • Up to ten runners-up receive £4,000 in unrestricted funding.
  • Award winners are offered free training and development valued at an average of £9,500 for each organisation.
  • You do not need to present a new project, and you decide how to spend the award money.

If your charity's total annual income is between £20,000 and £120,000 then please view the GSK Grow Programme. Up to 10 charities will receive £10,000 in unrestricted funding plus training and development valued at £3,200. Up to five runner-up charities will receive £1,000. 

Deadline for both awards: Monday 20 September, 5pm

 

Learning Together Autumn-Winter 21/22 is a free, flexible programme of regional learning and development activities for voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise organisations (VCSE). 

Those joining Learning Together will be offered a learning package to get them 'social prescribing' ready. Participants will be able to take part in a series of online workshops based on a variety of themes including sports, arts and green social prescribing. The programme will be tailored based on the needs identified in the application form by participants. 

Participants will be connected with a regional Thriving Communities lead, who can support new partnerships with arts, heritage, natural environment, financial wellbeing, physical activity and health and care organisations, including social prescribing link workers.

Learning Together is free to join. It runs from late Sep/early October 2021 to March 2022. A commitment to attend all sessions is encouraged.

Nominations now open for the 2021 London Impact Awards, supported by Citi

This year’s theme ‘Powered by Women’ aims to shine a spotlight on local women-led organisations and inspiring women leaders making a meaningful difference in their communities.

The London Impact Awards will be presented at an Awards Ceremony in January 2022, where three grants of £30,000 will be awarded to the winning organisations, and £2,500 will be awarded to two young women who are demonstrating inspirational leadership in their communities.

The deadline for the London Impact Awards nominations is 12pm on Friday 8 October 2021.

National Citizen Service (NCS) and Groundwork Changing Places logo

Do you fancy being a 'Dragon' for an afternoon?

Groundwork London are looking for volunteers for their National Citizen Service (NCS) programme with young people in Barnet.

The NCS programme is based on team building, life skills and social action. The young people will be creating a social action project this can be a fundraiser, campaign or volunteering.  The project is entirely youth led and they would love to have volunteers from the Barnet VCFS to hear their pitches and give feedback, Dragon's Den style!

Sign up to Barnet’s voluntary sector Manifesto

Barnet Together is calling for community, voluntary and faith groups as well as statutory organisations and businesses operating in the borough of Barnet, to sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Sector Manifesto.

The aim of the Manifesto is to create better understanding and deeper cross-sector collaboration between organisations working within Barnet. By signing up to the Manifesto, groups and service providers agree to adhere to the values within the document. 

If you are a representative of a group, service provider or business based in or serving Barnet, then you can sign up to the Barnet Voluntary Manifesto.
