HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY: VICTIM JARROD BUNCH CALLS OUT UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN REGENT JORDAN ACKER FOR HIS HYPOCRISY OVER THE HANDLING OF THE ANDERSON CASE ANN ARBOR - Former University of Michigan athletes, and sexual abuse victims, are taking aim at several Board of Regents members who have been hypocritical in their refusal to call for an investigation into the systemic breakdown of protocols that allowed for decades of sexual assault and rape by Dr. Robert Anderson, and the subsequent cover-up. In the first video released today on a new microsite, former Michigan powerhouse football player Jarrod Bunch ('86-'90) uses Jordan Acker's own tweets from 2018, when he called for accountability at Michigan State after the Larry Nassar scandal, to show how hypocritical his silence has been in recent months regarding Dr. Anderson and UM. In the video above, Bunch says: "IN JULY OF 2018, JORDAN ACKER EXPRESSED STRONG OPINIONS REGARDING THE MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY CASE AGAINST DR. LARRY NASSAR. ACKER CALLED FOR ANYONE IN A POSITION OF POWER TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SEXUAL ASSAULTS COMMITTED BY DR. NASSAR. HE TWEETED: Any person in power who knows of sexual abuse at a university and does nothing must be held to account, whether they are a member of congress, the president of the university, or a coach. WELL CHAIRMAN ACKER, YOU’RE NOW IN THAT POSITION OF POWER. WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP THE 850 VICTIMS OF DR ROBERT ANDERSON? I’M FORMER UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN ATHLETE JARROD BUNCH AND I’M HIGHLIGHTING THE HYPOCRISY." "Regent Acker's tweets speak for themselves. He was all too happy to do the right thing and call for accountability at MSU when Larry Nassar was abusing students, but now that the scandal is on his own campus, he wants to stay silent and avoid a transparent and cooperative investigation. The hypocrisy is truly too outrageous to ignore," Ian Prior, spokesperson for Spotlight Michigan said. Spotlight Michigan is committed to exposing these crimes and providing a voice to the community of victims, families, friends, and University of Michigan alumni that demand accountability from the University for its failure to put students before predators. It is also imperative that protocols and procedures be updated and improved to ensure such systemic failures that allowed for both the abuse and the cover-up never happen again.
