YEAR 2 – The Journey So Far!

Building upon the success of Doorstep Sport Clubs in Year 1 we have collectively engaged an additional 15,000 young people aged 14-25 since June 2014! This is a fantastic achievement so well done so far! Our target is to reach 27,180 young people by the end of March, so we still have our work cut out!

Please remember to collect and update your data on Views regularly to help you demonstrate the impact your project is having locally and contribute to the overall national target for the DSC programme.

We hope you liked the 12 Views of Christmas Competition (well done to all the winners and congratulations to Your Housing Group who won the top prize of an iPad Mini!). For support with using the Views system please contact matthew.rivitt@streetgames.org or haseeb.maleek@streetgames.org  or call 0161 707 0782.

We have received positive feedback about the DSC infographics - we hope you found yours useful! We intend to update and re-issue infographics to individual organisations in March as a tool to help you keep track of and share your DSC progress.

CLUB1 Gets Off to a Flying Start!

‘CLUB1’ which aims to encourage and support more young people to take part in ‘solo activities’ has got off to a great start! There are now 61 organisations delivering 105 clubs across England. Activities being delivered include fitness, swimming, boxing and running as well as gym inductions, leisure centre visits and group charity runs/bike rides! To see some great examples of what CLUB1 projects are doing and how CLUB1 Promoters are key in supporting the programme follow @SG_CLUB1  #myCLUB1.

If you are delivering a CLUB1 initiative, please remember:

  • To return your completed participant surveys as soon as possible
  • To log your CLUB1 participant details on Views as you would with your normal DSC (remember to create a session group for each CLUB1 initiative you are doing)
  • To support and encourage your CLUB1 Promoter as much as possible
  • To use your CLUB1 Rewards & Incentives wisely!

Please refer back to your Welcome Pack for resources which will help you deliver the programme (you will have received this electronically via an email link and through the post in a festive tube!). There will be another round of CLUB1 opportunities in the next couple of months so watch out for more information through Word on the Street.

Any questions relating to CLUB1 please contact helen.crowley@streetgames.org or call 0161 707 0782. Keep up the good work!

DSC Funding 2014/15 and 2015/16

2014/15 - We will shortly be processing the second payment of £1000 for DSCs delivering in 2014/15. We are currently undertaking an internal review of organisations before making this payment and will be taking into account:

  • DSC data on Views
  • Progress made towards targets
  • Overall engagement with the programme.

If no issues are identified you will be paid your £1000 imminently. If any issues are identified we will contact you and offer support so that these can be resolved quickly and payment can be processed.

2015/16 Good news!  Sport England has confirmed the funding for the DSC Programme for 2015-16! This will be for one year of DSC delivery from April 2015. We will be in touch with more information about how we will work with you to agree your readiness to continue into 2015/16. This year we have decided not to ask projects to complete a self-review form, instead we would like you to focus all your efforts on delivery in this important period! More details to follow.

StreetGames National Conference 2015 – DON’T MISS OUT!

Generation Z: What today's young people want from life and from Doorstep Sport

The 2015 StreetGames National Conference will take place on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th March at Warwick University. The Conference is a great chance to:

  • Meet other like-minded people and policy makers
  • Talk to other DSC projects, discuss ideas and trouble shoot problems
  • Hear from experts in the field and have your say in shaping doorstep sport over the next 12 months
  • Learn how to make your DSC a success - now and in the future!

Attending the conference is very valuable, both for you individually as an organisation involved in delivering Doorstep Sport and in presenting a strong collective voice from those who deliver sport for disadvantaged young people. We can confirm that you are able to spend some of your DSC funding on attending the conference. NB Your DSC Service Level Agreement states that a minimum of one staff member is to attend the annual StreetGames conference.

Download the Conference Brochure here for full details of what will be a fantastic two days! Don't forget the StreetGames Awards, which take place on the evening of the first day!

*Early bird booking closes on 2nd February 2015. If you book by this date you will be entered into a prize draw with a chance of winning an Apple iPad! So what are you waiting for?*
