FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPALVaughan Cleary - Acting Principal It is my privilege to bring to you this newsletter. Assumption College continues to challenge our young people to be reflective and provide them with an inclusive learning environment with a view to prepare them for all aspects of life. As outlined in our last newsletter, our Principal Kate Fogarty shared with you her story of experiencing some significant health issues. As a result she will be taking some well-deserved leave to recover and I will be Acting
Principal. I encourage you to continue to keep connected. From all of us here at Assumption we wish Kate all the best and look forward to her return in week two of Term 2.
Year 7 CampThis time last week we received a very positive ‘progress report’ from the staff who were involved in the Year 7 camp. 220 students travelled to Lady Northcote YMCA Camp just near Bacchus Marsh. The great news is that the camp was deemed a huge success by both staff and students. There was a genuine feeling of joy (and some tiredness!) as the camp attendees returned back to our college grounds last Friday. The staff have reported that the student’s attitude and commitment to the variety of activities was outstanding. Many students who I spoke to expressed gratitude
for the opportunity to spend such quality time together whilst off campus.
Year 12 RetreatAs one year level returns to classes this week another prepared to embark on a 3 day experience away from Kilmore. The Year 12 retreat (Wednesday to Friday) gives our students and retreat leaders an experience in faith and personal development. As these students approach the end of their time at school, these retreats provide a wonderful opportunity to stop and reflect on their life, their relationship with others and the world around them, and especially their relationship with God. We wish all participants the very best and hope that it becomes a highlight of the students
year. AGSV/APSThe summer season would typically be over by now but due to COVID and a delayed start to the season games will continue up until the end of the term, although for many teams this week will be their last. In addition to the summer sports that play on Saturday morning, our swim team have been busy training in the mornings for the annual AGSV swim meet. We wish all of our coaches and athletes the very best as they strive to do their very best as they compete on various stages.

Co-Curricular Activities - back in full swing! What a blessing it has been seeing our students back taking wickets, singing and dancing, getting on the early morning bus trips down to Mentone and just generally enjoying each other’s company. If last year has taught us one thing, it is how much we have come to appreciate what gives us connection, a sense of community and belonging. There is no better way for any students to be part of this at Assumption College then through our co-curricular program, which has been major highlight for all those that have taken to their respective activities thus far. Thank-you to all of our parents for assisting with the new co-curricular sign up process at the beginning of the Year. With two new staff heading up the respective programs; Mr Fred LeDuc (Cultural) and Mr Fil Simao (Sport). We have hit the ground running and I am sure you see the energy and passion that they bring to their respective domains throughout the months and years ahead. Given the current Covid-19 regulations, you will have noticed the mandatory QR Codes for those attending campus to watch sport for longer than 15 minutes. Thank-you for adhering to this, so that we can all do our bit. Unfortunately across all AGSV Schools, parents are still not allowed inside indoor sports stadiums, sorry to all of our Basketball and Volleyballer parents out there (finger crossed this will be changed later on in
the year)! National Day Against Bullying - 19 MarchThroughout this week, our student leaders have been promoting National Day Against Bullying and Violence which is officially celebrated on Friday 19th March. Some of the student led initiatives have included updating all of the screensavers on the students laptops, informative bullying and bystander videos being promoted in LMG, Kahoot challenges and presentations being run in Year 7 - 9 MyBeing classes. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that we are a supportive, safe and respectful community and we hope that this week has been an important reminder about how we can all
contribute to always keeping this at the forefront of our minds!
Athletics DayA reminder Tuesday 30 March is our Athletics Carnival. The School Leaders and Sports department are busy ensuring that all is ready to go for what promises to be a great day of energy, enthusiasm and community building. The VCAL students have also been working alongside the organising committee as they raise awareness and funds for the Relay for Life. More information will be coming out in the weeks ahead as to how you can support this worthy cause. All the best for the final few weeks of Term 1!
FROM BOARDING
St Patrick's DayThe boarding house celebrated St Patrick's Day this week with special efforts from Julie and the team for the green theme! By all reports the Guinness Pie for dinner was delicious! For more pictures and Boarding updates, visit the Boarding Facebook page.

AGSV Representatives Three of our First 11 Cricketers have been selected to represent the AGSV against APS schools on Tuesday 30 March. Congratulations to Errol Burns and Riley Gaylard (pictured below) and Lachlan Shinn-Mahony. All three are very deserving to be selected. At the time of selection Errol was the leading wicket taker of the AGSV competition with 15 wickets, the highlight being a 5 wicket haul against Trinity Grammar. Lachlan was the leading run scorer of the competition respectively with 199 runs, with a high score of 82 versing Trinity Grammar. Riley was featured in the Top 10 wicket takers of the competition with 10 wickets, including a hat-trick against Trinity Grammar.
Marist Parent ConnectWe invite students to become ‘Marist’ in their attitudes, behaviours and beliefs, but this invitation is extended to all in our wider community. Throughout the year there are opportunities to deepen understandings of what it means to be Marists and join us in this way of life. The St Patrick’s Parish Marist Lenten reflections each Tuesday evening are one such opportunity. Another is the Marist Connect Parent newsletter. This is a new publication and can be found HERE.
Year 12 RetreatsAs mentioned in the Principal Message, our Year 12 students are on Retreat this week. The message these students receive is aspirational.
“During your time on retreat, we will invite you to dream of what you might become, and to begin your plans to make these dreams come true. You’re now well and truly on your way to being ‘Marists’ and hopefully those Marist characteristics of Simplicity, Presence, Love of Work, Family Spirit, all done ‘In the Way of Mary’, are not things you just learnt about this morning, but have seeped into your life over the time you’ve spent at Assumption. We hope these qualities will mark your life, but also become guiding principles for you when you are faced with those major life choices that will define you as a person. Our dream for you is that you continuously live our College motto, “Quae Supra Quaere”. Seek the things that are above. Be guided by those beautiful and noble words that St Paul holds dear when he wrote a similar letter
to the precious members of his community so many years ago. Live lives marked by Compassion Kindness Humility Gentleness Patience Forgiveness
Love Peace Gratitude May these words be an inspiration and a reference point for you as you negotiate the difficult, scary, unknown terrain of the future.”

Did your child come home a little lighter from the Year 7 camp? Perhaps you didn't see those runners, favourite t-shirt, hat or water bottle? These may all be sitting in the Year 7 Camp Lost property. We ask all families to collect all belongings before the end of term.
Financial AssistanceThe Victorian State Government’s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) helps ensure no student will miss out on the opportunity to join educational activities. CSEF is provided to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible. New applicants should contact the school to obtain a CSEF application form or download from HERE. If you have previously applied you do not need to complete a new application. You only need to do so if your child has enrolled at a new school or family circumstances have changed.
