Welcome, New Faculty!
Columbian College welcomed 43 full-time professors this year, a figure that includes 12 new positions spread equally across the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. The college now boasts 498 full-time faculty, compared to 471 last year. Read more.

Mikhail Gorbachev to Speak at GW
Former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev will sit down with SMPA Director Frank Sesno on October 1 at Lisner Auditorium to discuss the past, present, and future of “Mother Russia”. Tickets for the special event are free and will be available beginning Sept. 17. Read more.

$1.3 Million for Type 2 Diabetes Study
More than 150 million people worldwide have type 2 diabetes. Aleksandar Jeremic, associate professor of biology, will receive $1.3 million from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases to research how the disease develops. Read more.

Professor’s Film to Hit the Big Screen
The award-winning documentary Let the Fire Burn from School of Media and Public Affairs Assistant Professor Jason Osder will be released in theaters by Zeitgeist Films in October. The film sheds new light on the events leading up to the bombing of a Philadelphia neighborhood. Read more.

In the Spotlight
Dana Tai Soon Burgess, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and 2014 Incubator Studio Fellow, premiered his dance company’s performance at the National Gallery of Art for the Ballets Russes exhibit.
Alyx Mark, a political science PhD student, received $28,908 in research support from the National Science Foundation for her dissertation project, "Accessing Assistance and Citizen Engagement."
